My daughter and I were traveling and had a craving for seafood, so we decided to try this place. After placing our order, we looked for a spot to sit. Despite it being a breezy and cool day, we chose to sit on the upper level, and we were rewarded with a stunning view! We waited about 10 minutes at most before our number was called, and we picked up our food. We both ordered the clam strips, and they were absolutely delicious! At Costello's Clam Shack, the fish sandwich and belly clam rolls never disappoint—they're always delicious! If you're a fan of grilled seafood, I highly recommend trying the salad with grilled shrimp and scallops; just ask for them on the side. The only downside was the clam fritters, which unfortunately lacked clams and had a dense, rubbery batter that seemed like it had been sitting out too long. This kept me from giving a full five-star rating. The atmosphere is fantastic, featuring an open deck with views of the marina. Plus, we were able to bring our dog along, and since it’s a BYOB spot, it made the experience even better. Definitely check out the menu next time you visit!
I’m giving Costello’s Clam Shack 3 stars for the food and 4 stars for the atmosphere. The food was average and seemed to be made by inexperienced staff. The calamari was overcooked with a heavy batter and lacked a dipping sauce, which made it dry. The crab cakes stood out as quite tasty, full of crab meat with little filler. The onion strings were just average. My friend’s lobster roll was small and served on a hamburger bun, which struggled to hold the filling, although the lobster amount was just right. On the positive side, the atmosphere was wonderful—we loved watching the boats pass by and feeling the cool ocean breeze. Overall, I have mixed feelings about the experience!
This place is a great seafood shack!! 1 you can't beat the view, right on the marina you get a fresh ocean breeze. There is plenty of seating in the shade or the sun, chairs or picnic tables. 2 The food, delicious!! The tacos had an amazing mango salsa that just freshened up the plate, the scallops were beautifully fried not over cooked. But the onion rings were the surprise. Freshly breaded they were delightful, much better than the fries (which were very basic) 3 the staff was speedy, efficient, helpful, and overall very friendly. 4 priced extremely well for local seafood. Not at all tourist trap pricing. Will definitely return when I am in the area.

We are locals who have been going to Costello's several times every summer for years. We went on a Sunday evening, around 6. It was not crowded and there were plenty of tables available. We waited over 40 minutes for our order of Whole Belly Clams. When we finally got our order, disappointed would be an understatement! The clams were crunchy, as was the Calamari, the fries were not but they were ice cold. Only thing decent was the Cole Slaw. Needless to say, we will not be returning and would highly recommend avoiding this place.
We have been regular customers at Costello's Clam Shack for years, but sadly, this will be our final visit. Lunch for three cost us $65.00, and we only had water to drink. Prices have gone up while portion sizes have shrunk to an unacceptable level. The fish platter servings were very small, the fries were overcooked and bland, and the fish was heavily battered and overcooked. The clam chowder was so salty it was impossible to eat. We came on July 3, 2022. It’s disappointing, and we’ll be looking for a new place to eat.
My husband and I were in Mystic for a day in August. We have friends who grew up in Connecticut who told us a traditional dish is fried whole belly clams. This place offered the dish and a beautiful outdoor area to eat. You order at a window and they give you a buzzer. The buzzer lets you know when you should go pick up your food. The place did not sell beer but let us drink our own. The view of the boats at the docks and moorings was fantastic. A great Connecticut memory for us.
The view is stunning! I was informed that you can see three different states from this location. The sea scallops were exceptional. Although they don’t serve alcohol, it’s a BYOB (bring your own bottle) establishment!

Huge disappointment today eating at Costello 's. We got Lobster Rolls and fried calamari. The fried calamari had a bad oil taste. The Lobster roll was on a sesame hamburger bun. We will not be returning.
I always loved the scallop dinner but laterly when i get maybe 4 big scallops and then the remainder is just batter ends its not worth the price nor the trip there anymore.
