My recent experience with De Tarra Restaurant left me utterly disappointed and appalled. Despite testing positive for COVID-19 and responsibly requesting to reschedule my reservation for a later date for the safety of both their staff and other diners, they displayed a complete lack of empathy, as if my illness was a choice, they chose to charge me an exorbitant £460 anyway. It's important to note that I was not canceling my reservation; I simply couldn't dine with them at that moment due to my health. What a wonderful time. Innovative interesting food. At these price points, I’ll be a little harsher however. Atmosphere and music is a little odd. Music is lighthearted 80s 90s but then the service is overly formal and serious so they clash. We are in east London why not have a little more fun across the board. I love a good moqueca (in fact it’s presence on the menu was why I chose this restaurant) but I didn’t love the way they condescendingly educate you about that dish without asking if you’ve had it or been to Brazil or even Bahia before. Very well executed food, with influences from all around the world and especially South America. The use of ingredients unusual in Europe, is well balanced, and the dishes are the expression of an elegant and at times quite classic fine-dining approach. The level of food was very high, especially the main dishes, fish and meat, were outstanding. The food deserves the two Michelin starts and the other accolades. In terms of quality/price ratio, probably on the expensive side, but the uniqueness of the food proposal is worth the visit. Fabulous blind tasting menu @daterrarestaurant in #bethnalgreen by chef @rafacagali Bold exciting flavours complement each other in every delicious dish and each presented beautifully with Brazilian ingredients and inspiration throughout. We struggled to pick a favourite course and loved that each had a twist of flavour that was both familiar but unexpected keeping our tastebuds intrigued throughout the meal. We absolutely loved everything! The food was incredibly tasty and unique, the service was impeccable, and the atmosphere was spot on. We would definitely recommend it. We had the five-course lunch menu. Overall, I would rate the food, service, and atmosphere all as a perfect 5!
