Not a full timer? Stay away! Locals get cranky when you hang at their pool! Owners are more concerned about appeasing their regulars than visitors. Avoid at all costs unless you are in the in crowd! Had 7 campers in the field for a long weekend and we will never return. Oh, yeah and power cuts out all the time too....which we never complained about. There are plenty of opportunities for fishing and crabbing, whether or not you have a boat. If you bring your own kayaks, you can easily launch them right from the site. The campground is quite large, so we suggest bringing a golf cart for easier navigation. There are also many bike-friendly areas, with roads that are not heavily trafficked and mostly flat. During our stay, we visited Calvert Cliffs for fossil hunting and the Patuxent Naval Air Museum, both of which are fantastic destinations for families with kids. However, be aware that Calvert Cliffs requires an 1.8-mile walk from the parking lot along a dirt, gravel, and boardwalk path. While jogging strollers might manage it, it could...
As a family that had planned to camp here next year with at least four campers, and who has camped here in the past (even as former permanent guests), we will certainly not be returning. Instead of earning $40 today (which should have been the camping rate, allowing us to just book a camp site and be left alone) along with potential future business worth hundreds of dollars, they lost it all due to their poor customer service and rude attitude. Moreover, I don’t appreciate being monitored to ensure I’m leaving; that’s not the kind of environment I want for a relaxing camping trip. The main issue arose when we attempted to use the pool. It turns out that it’s supposedly reserved for regulars only. We were unpleasantly asked to leave because we were “taking up too much space,” even though we had 12 people and were only occupying a small corner of the tiny pool on a hot 90-degree day. They suggested we exit the pool and sit out for a while. To make matters worse, some regulars fabricated stories about us, which were completely untrue, just to get us in trouble. Instead of trying to understand the situation, the staff simply told us to leave. We will NEVER return, as this place seems to have a biased approach to their guests. Brought our trailer down to scout for work. I teach kayaking. This is a good location for my job. The only reason it’s not a five star is I couldn’t get cell reception which makes it hard to plan outings. That’s not the campground’s fault, I guess I need an antenna! We camped in the field. Paid for pump out on Sunday. Loved Capt Pat’s for dinner. Have already booked a workshop there this spring. My students appreciate the lower rates of camping versus renting a hotel or house. Boat ramp is well maintained and an easy launch for kayakers.
Captain Pat has done it again! I loved his restaurant in Lexington Park, and now he's opened a new one at Dennis Point. The food is outstanding, and the prices are incredibly reasonable. Thank you, Pat, for bringing your fantastic service back to St. Mary's County!
We camped there. The best part was lunch at Captain Pat's. Awesome food!! We'll be eating then when we go back at the end of summer.
