I had heard so much about Diehl that my expectations were quite high, and I’m happy to say the food exceeded them. I ordered the baked steak with sage, green beans, and rolls, along with a salad and chocolate cake. Everything had a homemade taste, and the chocolate cake was especially rich and fresh. However, the green beans could have used a bit more flavor. The high-quality butter served with the homemade rolls complemented the meal perfectly, and there was plenty of gravy with the baked steak. What a great place. Food is amazing! Everyone at our table ordered something different and everyone enjoyed their food and samples from others. Not a bad item in the bunch. It was really impossible to say what item was a favorite as they all were so good. Service was just as amazing as the food. All the staff seem to enjoy working there and cared for their customers like family. The only negative is that we were only one town as a stop and will be moving on in the morning. Despite being several hundreds of miles from home we will make the trip back! Late lunch and the pork bbq sandwich was not available for another 30 minutes , so the spaghetti was picked as an alternative and came out flavorless looking like ground beef and tomato sauce. My fried potatoes were serviceable, but the pinto beans were barely done and the soup/broth was watery and tasteless. My wife and I make it a point to stop here every time we visit Charleston. This is our seventh visit to this restaurant, and we absolutely love the cozy atmosphere. The food is exceptional, and the portions are very generous. If you have the chance to try the cobbler when it’s in season, don’t miss it—it's amazing! Although there was one dish we didn't enjoy as much, overall, the experience is definitely worth the trip!
Diehl's is absolutely one of a kind, I don't ever not stop in for a meal when I'm in Nitro. You will not walk out of there not completely full and satisfied. It's the penultimate down home Appalachian country cooking comfort kitchen. I had an amazing dining experience! The food was outstanding and truly merits a perfect rating. The service was exceptional, with attentive staff ensuring we had everything we required. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, providing a delightful setting for a lovely dinner. Overall, everything was first-rate!

In summary, the dining experience was disappointing. The food earned a low score, and while the service was somewhat better, it still fell short. The atmosphere was average at best. The only dish worth mentioning is the Sage Dressing, which stands out in an otherwise lackluster meal.
