A birthday meal with the family..and previous visits (a few over the last year) prompted us to return. This will be the last time though. Shocking...everything it was like being in Fawlty Towers. Seated quickly and the menu at the table were the only good things. 15 mins later we were attended to, to ask for drinks. We said we were ready to order food, as we had beeb waiting so long, but the waiter insisted on drinks being ordered first. Having gone around the whole table, the waiter asked why my wife was not ordering a drink...which she had already ordered. Seriously, there only 4 of us. Before leaving us, he then tried to take the menu away. 10 mins later, the drinks came out...only 3 ! Ev...
My friend made a booking a couple of days before and when we arrived at 12.30 we were surprised to find the restaurant closed. Don Beni's staff admitted later they made a mistake and could not call my friend as they apparently had taken her number down wrong. She was embarrassed, but I told her it is not a big drama. We went to Stirrups country hotel nearby instead and had a lovely meal. The week after my friend asked if we could try Don Beni's again. She made another booking for dinner and this time it was all okay but there was no sincere apology for the previous mistake. In fact, the staff were not very friendly. Booked a table for Saturday lunchtime. Arrived to find place completely empty but despite that we were shown to a table for two in a dark corner. Very rustic interior, with a lot of pictures relating to horse racing given proximity to Ascot Racecourse, and well worn menus. Given we were initially only the diners service was prompt but not overly friendly. However, the food more than made up for the lack of a welcome. We shared a cheesy garlic bread to start and then had Spaghetti Napoli and a Don Beni pizza both very generous portions and tasty. We washed all this down with two glasses of Pinot Grigio, a Moretti and cappuccino. Total with tip £75. Shame the service did not match the deliciou...
Sat down and handed menus quite quickly however after that things went down hill. Whilst ordering drinks we asked what the house wine was like and was told was normal normal for what was left to us to guess. We thought maybe we could have some garlic bread whilst looking at the menu but we 're told we could only have drinks. The order taking was even more chaotic with some of our party missed off altogether and the waiter had to be reminded. Had to ask a couple of times to get more drinks and although plenty of staff they did not seem to be too fussed about the customers. We visited really to get a meal after being out all day and not wanting to cook… turns out I could have probably rustled up a 3 course gourmet supper in the same time. Service was very slow despite restaurant being nearly empty with almost more staff than customers. Our order was taken quickly enough, but staff attitude was quite diffident and disinterested . Range of alcohol free options very limited and ridiculous prices for them £5.50 for pint of Diet Coke). Food was fine when it eventually arrived,
I went to this restaurant when my two eldest daughters were younger for birthdays with family. It was great. The waiters made a fuss of them. I took my 11 year old daughter in for a pizza on her birthday today and not even a happy birthday to her from the waiters. I am not sure if the restaurant has changed hands but it is not the same service. On the plus side, the food was lovely. We will not be going back though. Eating out is a treat for us on special occasions. Back to Pizza Express next time
Have been using Don Beni's takeaway for a a while as the food is always so good. Last night we met friends and were blown away by the friendly and amazing service. Food once again was perfect the BEST pizza's and I had seafood Pasta which was delicious. The bill was also a shock as no service charge and very reasonable! Honestly have to say this is the best we have had for a long time and will be going back regularly without a doubt a true great find!
Booked a table for two, nice place, nice atmosphere, we started with Garlic Bread which was lovely, For dinner my wife had the pollo Naughty and I had the Spaghetti Bolognese, both very nice, service was a little slow but they were very busy as it was Saturday night but overall it was a nice nice evening and I wouldn't hesitate in returning. Everything was fine when we arrived, the restaurant itself is quaint. Outside of that, the restaurant staff was pretty uncaring, and were very un charming and disinterested. The food was mediocre, far from authentic Italian. To top it off it was nearly £20 for water and tea for only 2 people! What rubbish.
