My wife is a food writer but also a vegerarian and this whole region of France is very difficult for anyone as interested in, and knowledgeable about, food as she is. Here you have to go. This small restaurant close to the lake Lac D 'Estaing in the mountains near Argeles Gazost in Midi Pyrenees. It is worth it. They have a menu card with a 18 EUR menu and a 28 EUR where we prefer the last due to the diverse selection of dishes never had before. Forget to have steak and fries. Here it is local and in combination with the products you can find here in the mountains. We had Effeuillée de truite fumée, very tasty. Main course Pastilla de canard au foie gras. Dessert was a Baba arrondi d l 'armanac and my wife Coupe glasée aux fruit de bois. Out of the menu we were served a small appetizer of stinging nettle soup. Really recommended. Book table in advance.
The most noise we heard at this hotel was the sound of the stream across the road, and the bleating of sheep that strolled past in the morning. We spent 3 nights at the Hotel Restaurant du Lac d'Estaing, and it was our favorite of all the hotels on our 2013 vacation. Dinners were delicious, featuring regional specialties in a different fixed menu each night. Great local choice and friendly staff. Good beer and wine with a range of local food at all prices. Superbly situated for a visit to the lake and a great place to sit and rest. The goat and sheep cheeses were remarkable and bread and water just arrive to make the meal complete.
Had a very pleasant meal at this hotel, service was very good and friendly. Two types of menu one for 18 euro and the one we had was 25 euro. Nicely presented and very tasty. Decor rather tired could do with a make over none the less an excellent meal.

Tasty plentiful, traditional fare done well! And in a lovely setting! Service is quick too! Highly recommend for a casual meal or snack.
