TLDR If you are visiting Hawaii I would advise against this place. Definitely a locals only place based off our experience. The GPS makes it a little hard to find, tucked in a shopping center and not too intuitive where to find. Around the corner from the entrance we saw a group of people laughing and chatting and we asked them if they knew where the bar was and they either shook their head no or didn 't respond. (About 30 minutes laters they came into the bar and one of the guys greeted the bartender by name). When we first sat at the bar before greeting us the bartender said is that a beer you 're drinking? I stopped by eight50 on a Friday afternoon and found it quite busy. As mentioned in other reviews, there were plenty of locals around, and they were all very friendly, exuding a genuine sense of aloha spirit. The whiskey selection was good, and there were plenty of canned and bottled beers to choose from. However, the draft beers weren't as good as I had hoped. After ordering a Lagunitas, the bartender advised us to steer clear of the draft options, as they were coming out with too much foam. It pains me to give this place just 1 star but, honestly, wouldn't go back. It was crowded on a Saturday night but we were lucky ? to get a table for the 2 of us. There was only 1 server for the entire place!! Poor thing and poor us. We waited for our menus, drinks, food, utensils, plates, water, and our bill. we sat there with a friend, because the sign craft beers has advertised what we wanted. all the cocks were down and the waitress seemed new, we always asked for certain beer and she didn't know if she was available. every 5 minutes she would come back and ask if we were in order. it began to irritate. we ordered the londboard and eat something about expensive. we sat on one of the tables, while the time went through the music that was played began to become louder and louder. we've been crying together to talk. they win the waitress a very good tipp and she was literally hoping to leave up in the appreciation jumped up. This establishment is truly a hidden gem, as I never would have expected to find such an impressive whiskey bar attached to a bowling alley. They offer not only a fantastic selection of whiskeys but also a remarkable range of tequilas. The bartender and waitress checked in on my friends and me just the right amount, ensuring our glasses were always full without being intrusive. The menu featured an enticing variety of delicious bar bites; we enjoyed pork bao buns, kal-bi, onion rings, and kalua pig nachos. Overall, this is a wonderful spot to relax, savor fine whiskey, indulge in tasty food, and even play a game of darts or pool.
I was really disappointed with my experience at this restaurant. After we paid our bill, we noticed that we were charged an extra three dollars for each drink compared to the prices listed on the menu. We spoke with the manager, who promised to refund our credit card, but that never happened—however, we did receive the refund about ten days later. It’s a great place, but they really need to update their menus.
My brother and I were in the area searching for a place to eat, but we didn't realize that the food court by Don Q's had closed down. We ended up walking over to the bowling alley just to grab a meal, and we were pleasantly surprised. We also appreciate the warm hospitality.
