We arrived in Arucas around mid-day with the intention of visiting the gothic church and wandering around the streets of the old town. The church was closed, so we spent time looking at the wonderful exterior, which from what we have read, is far more...interesting than the interior. By this time we were feeling hungry and walked over to El Gotico, a bar opposite the church. There were several locals standing drinking and eating tapas at the bar. It was sunny and quite warm, so we sat outside and from the menu we ordered prawns in garlic and a plate of fried fish. the church was closed when we arrived and eager to eat a bite before siesta time, we fell for some food. a small bar with a few locals at the bar, we were offered immediately to taste the freshly made meat. paella of the friendly barmann. the paella was tasty and the pizza ordered by my other half filled his appetit. not much spanish is spoken on our side, apart from the standard dos caffes con leche and not much English on their, but we could easily understand each other. the personal tries to rejoice and it was a pleasant experience.
We had a late lunch here of chipirones (small griddled squids) and pork, with chips and a side salad. Everything was good and very filling. The service was friendly, and the position was pretty, in the shadow of the neo gothic church of San Juan...Bautista, completed in 1978. Our food, including two beers cost a reasonable €24. Arucas is a pretty town with its church, tidy park, rum distillery and what appears to be a fair amount of well justified civic pride.

we both didn't get what we ordered. without asking brot is served and charged. pizza is not fresh. Bill was too high. 24 euro for two pizzas and two drinks. bit expensive I think
we had a good lunch and enjoyed our stay in this small but cozy place next to the church.
