Jackpot. I knew I met gold as soon as I got in and realized I was the only white Tussi in place. I was there because my GPS and Google told me it was a restaurant. I had to pick up some things I needed for dinner later in the evening. When I realized it was just the restaurant, I felt like an idiot, and pretended I was just there to eat. I ordered a small steak quesadilla and a coke. The guy said it would be up in about 5 minutes and because it stood only place (the place is TINY, he pulled a folding chair for me. Blink and you just might miss it. El Pueblo is a tiny authentic Mexican restaurant space on Aloma Ave just east of Forsyth in Winter Park. It is a hole in the wall that is a bit of a remarkable hidden gem, serving some of the best Mexican antojitos or “small bites” street food on the east side of town. The mole was fantastic; it was my first time trying it, and I really enjoyed the blend of sweet, spicy, and savory flavors paired with the tender chicken. The guacamole was quite tasty as well, although it had tomatoes, which I'm usually not a fan of, but it was still enjoyable. The rice and beans were decent, pretty standard fare. However, the Tacos Regulares Con Arroz Y Frijoles were disappointing—very dry and not very impressive. If it weren't for the rest of the meal being so great, I would have rated this place a 3. I will definitely order again, but I plan to try something different next time.
Best Mexican food, made the proper way. If you think you like enchiladas, order some from El Pueblo. They are made the exact way I've seen them prepared in Mexico, not baked in a casserole dish like we do here. And not like other mexican restaurants do by slathering them in sauce AFTER they are on the plate. The steak quesadillas and chicken Tortas are also amazing. Make sure they give you some salsa with both, red and green. Its not some mild, lame american salsa. It's some fiery, spicy, tasty blend of something or other that is just amazing. This inconceivable place in a strip marble is one of the best Mexican restaurants I've ever eaten. Let the name food you do not confuse, it is a restaurant. They don't give you chips and salsa, but their prices are so low that you can't complain. The food was great too. I'll be back again and again. The taco al pastor was delicious and the staff was also very friendly!
The agua frescas were decent but lacked flavor; they were more watery than I expected. The tacos were alright—the meat was good, but the taco shell felt a bit like cardboard. On the other hand, the sopes had great toppings, and the torta was also quite good.
Great food at a great price. The most authentic Mexican food I've seen in Orlando. This is not Tex-nex, it is real Mexican food. Most people eating there are Latin, so you know that it's the place when locals go. You also speak English, don't be shy.
