Upon arrival, we were escorted to the intimate basement dining room by the attentive server who provided clear explanations of the menu items. This is not your typical Irish menu, but rather a creative menu featuring Irish ingredients. We started with the Beetroot Salad and Sourdough Bread, both of which were fresh and delicious. For mains, I chose the Blow Torched Cod with clams and a parsnip emulsion, which was fantastic. The King scallops and polenta fries with pesto sauce were also very good. As first time visitors to Dublin, we planned an itinerary centered around whiskey and beer. We did not expect to come across such an amazing wine bar in Ireland; everything about Ely Wine Bar was so unexpectedly pleasant. The staff was friendly and warm. The charger board (especially the cheese) wowed us in appearance and taste. The hand cut chips were fried to perfection (crisp exterior, fluffy interior). Our server selected excellent wines to complement all the items that we ordered for the table. We really enjoyed the room downstairs, which felt quite cozy and intimate. This experience (March 2020) was so memorable that we would go out of the way to dine here again on a future trip to Dub...
Excellent! Very quaint and friendly. We started w a Prosecco and a Pinot noir from Germany. Extremely light and yet flavorful. The John duval plexus is a wonderful Sauvignon blanc not your traditional grassy tasting Sauvignon blanc. We ordered the crab and crawfish starter and garlic chili prawns. Both were delicious but the prawns blew me away! Light, and flavorful. We also ordered the scallops and Halibut and I am extremely happy. Not too filling, not your typical Irish place. Baz greeted us as helped explain the menu and the wines. Very happy we found this wonderful place.
This restaurant is a hidden gem with a fantastic atmosphere, delicious food, and an impressive wine selection. I made a last-minute reservation for 5pm through Open Table and arrived just 30 minutes later, catching the staff off guard. Despite feeling a bit out of place at first, the amazing food and drinks more than made up for it. I would definitely come back and have already recommended Ely to others.

We had a delicious dinner in this upscale restaurant. The food wasn't particularly Irish, but I think more modern European with an Asian flair. We ate downstairs in the bar. It was a pretty cozy set up. The setting was relatively intimate, with the brick walls low lighting. Service was good, not great. The food was delicious and the drinks list was more than adequate.
Saturday night- 1800. 2 people with reservations Pros: A warm and friendly staff. A huge wine list! (Obviously! Able to make reservations on Open Table Charming basement location. Cons: There was a time limit on our seats (which is a difficult concept for Americans . A limited food menu- however the items are delicious.

Nice hidden place between Merrion square and St Stephens Green. Good food and wine, nice staff, very pleasant atmosphere. We'll come back!
