We've been meaning to try Esculent since moving to the area. We were told the food is nice but the service is a little slow. We went on a Sunday morning and ordered the big breakfast and ham eggs Benedict. Coffee was nice. Also ordered a tea, which was quite weak. I think the teapot could have done with an extra teabag. The big breakfast was pretty much standard fare that you could find at any cafè or roadhouse. Nothing to really make it unique to Esculent. The snags, tomato and mushrooms appear to just be oven baked and nothing overly special. The baked beans were of the tinned variety and the hash browns (whilst delish) are from a packet. The eggs Benedict was ok. Poached eggs cooked reall...
I'd been told to give this place a try and I'm glad I did. Esculent is set up as a dine in cafe or take away and because I was on my own I ordered a basic hot dog with tomato relish, cheddar cheese and American mustard. Then the server informed me it was 50 cent wicked wings Wednesday so I also ordered half a dozen hot buffalo wings with blue cheese sauce. Easily the best most authentic hot wings I've had in a couple of years. Overall very happy and can't wait to go back and dine in with my family, looking forward to trying the King George Whiting. Also I'd like to add the young lady who served me was very professional and welcoming.
Both times I sat outside as I had a dog with me, but inside does seem nicely set up.The first time I was impressed with the service. The breakfast was quite nice, and the coffee was Ok.The second time I sat in extreme heat outside and even though I'd only ordered one slice of raisin toast and a coffee it took 15 minutes. The toast was over done, butter on the side but no knife to spread it. The coffee was bland and there was jo sugar at all so I had to go back in twice. .. the service person was different to the first time I went.Don't think I'll bother going again.
I am a local. I want to support local. I order take away weekly since Esculant opened. Great food. Terrible service. Never a smile or greeting. I ring to order. Long wait for order pick up. Everytime something missed in order. Long waits in draughty waiting area. I called again today to speak to manager for one last chance. They hung up on me. It was about 10am and we couldn't find anything on the breakfast menu that appealed, so decided on a burger each. The 'vege'n out' burger was delicious. The field mushroom was cooked and flavoured beautifully. My husband had the 'esculent' burger and was pleased with his choice. Flavours in both were fresh. Coffee was also good. This meal kept hunger at bay for quite some time.
Went with a couple of mates and all of our breakfasts were awesome. I had the special of siracha and maple marinated pork belly eggs benedict. A great take on traditional eggs benny and I really enjoyed it.Everyone elses sounded great and the coffee and milkshakes were excellent.Already recommending this place to friends.
After taken my Mum and daughter a couple of times as local. Nice little cafe with cosy feel. Service good and food great. Will be going back for sure.

This is a gem in Old Reynella. Outstanding food, service and staff. Great atmosphere. I totally recommend, great work guys.
