"The rooms had been updated since our last stay on September 22, and they looked much nicer because of it. Although the heating in our room wasn't working properly, we were quickly moved to another room without any trouble. We enjoyed the rest of our two-night stay and were compensated for the inconvenience. We plan to stay again when visiting family who live nearby."

I have been visiting this hotel on and off for the past 35 years, but unfortunately, I had the worst meal ever this evening. I ordered the steak and ale "puff pastry" pie, but it turned out to be more like soggy shortcrust pastry. Despite this, I was quite hungry after traveling all day, so I gave it a try. However, there were only 4 pieces of meat in the pie, 2 of which were gristle. To make matters worse, the accompanying vegetables were rubbery. I spoke to a lady in charge and pointed out these issues, even demonstrating how rubbery the carrot was by bending it into a U shape and unsuccessfully attempting to slice the broccoli. Just stayed at The Ethorpe again while having a refurb , it’s truly amazing what they have done with it , it’s absolutely stunning now and has still kept its quirky atmosphere, the staff as normal are amazing helpful and friendly, the bar staff and restaurant staff Lilly , Louise, Lolly, Neil , Michael, amondo are amazing, the house maid staff are very professional and caring while looking after your room, over seen by ina who is very professional as well as being friendly, the new management Paul and Michelle have made me feel at home with their help and friendliness and everything they can’t to look after you , I was there for 3 months continuously , and am looking forward to going back ne...
Visited Ethorpe/restaurant for Christmas dinner on the 25th December 2023 with family there were six of us. The meal was absolutely delicious and a fantastic and festive atmosphere. The staff were very pleasant, helpful and accommodating they went above and beyond and made the day extra special. Thank you and hope you all had a nice relaxing evening after all your hard work. My Sister and her Husband stayed in one of the rooms over Christmas for two nights, they were very impressed with the room and had a wonderful stay.
This restaurant experience was extremely disappointing. There was a lack of staff and those who were working seemed overwhelmed. The person in charge should reconsider their position. We waited 20 minutes to be served a drink and eventually gave up. We went to other bars in GX and were served promptly. There is stiff competition in GX now, so the Eathorpe needs to improve their service. A local customer left feeling very frustrated, with no excuse given. Our Christmas Eve was unfortunately ruined.
