Fat Tony's has been a favorite of mine since we first moved to Pictou over a year ago during Thanksgiving weekend. At the time, we were surrounded by boxes and couldn't even think about having another slice of pizza! One rainy day, we ventured out into our new town and discovered Fat Tony’s, which became our first real meal here—and I was immediately hooked! My absolute favorite dish was the fish, along with this salad (I can’t recall the name) featuring beets and goat cheese. The place was dirty. We only wanted to eat but were made to pay a cover fee for the band they had for the night. HUSH is their name. We told the guy at the door( the drummer I think) that we would be gone before his band went on stage. He still charged up $10. on the patio. Waited 10 minutes to get someones attention while the wait staff were sitting at a table hanging out. The waitress tried to clear some food scraps off of the table we were sitting at by flicking it with the stack of menus she held in her hand. All those menus and the 4 of us had to share 1. We decided to give Fat Tony's another shot after hearing some positive feedback about the recent changes in staffing and management. I'm happy to report that we were really pleased with our visit. The service was outstanding, thanks to Kristy, and the food was excellent, especially the Philly beef dip. The new decor is beautiful—warm and inviting—much better than the sterile, fishbowl atmosphere it had before. We would love to see some table service available after the kitchen closes; if that happens, we’ll likely return for the nightly entertainment. If you've had a negative experience in the past, I encourage you to give this new team a chance.
I enjoyed the unique views from the patio, and the flower pot lights added a charming rustic touch. Fortunately, it was a quiet afternoon, and the service was prompt. The menu prices were affordable, and I found the clubhouse sandwich (ordered with cranberry sauce and as a double decker) to be quite decent. However, I was a bit disappointed that the fried pepperoni appetizer was slightly overcooked and dry. Overall, it was a refreshing change of scenery with large open spaces and pool tables. Impressed at first… until the beer we had gotten was completely flat. Then the food came and the coleslaw was that with our food was so warm and rotten, no apology either. New coleslaw was brought but wasn’t much different. Bill was not adjusted for the service and level of food we had received. Will not be back, do not recommend!!
The main course was mediocre. The beer was flat, and the coleslaw tasted spoiled and was served warm. The server and owner were indifferent and did not adjust the bill. I won't be returning and wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.
Locals tend to avoid this restaurant for several reasons. The staff is often inattentive, the food quality is lacking, prices are high, the beer is served warm, and the kitchen appears unclean.
