We were excited to visit this place to try the French press coffee. We were looking forward to sitting down and enjoying the coffee with a breakfast pastry. When we entered, we were handed a mask before we could approach the counter. Asked if we were going to drink it there and did we want ceramic mugs. We said yes that would be great. We were then told we had to show proof of vaccine before we could use ceramic mugs!! Seriously!! Most ridiculous thing I have ever been asked since the pandemic started. There were only 2 stand up tables in the front. You have to go to the back of the building which puts you in the lobby of a building. Coffee was okay, French press wads served in 2 small paper...
Filter is a bright, modern coffeehouse run and owned by DC locals. The staff are friendly and efficient. The coffee and espresso drinks are first-rate. Lcated right off the lobby of 1919 Pennsylvania Avenue in DC, near the World Bank and George Washington University, they remodeled during COVID for a clean, modern look integrated directly into the building's lobby's interior casual seating and meeting space. Years ago my office was near Filter and I went every day. Post-COVID I'm in a different location but every time I'm in that area I stop by.
This is the anti Starbucks coffee shop. It's also connected to one of the most lovely inviting lobbies that was recently renovated in DC. They only use ceremony coffee, the best roastery in the Mid-Atlantic. They used to only do french press because the best beans in the mid-Atlantic and french press is what people who really like coffee want to drink. They also now do pour overs and espresso drinks.They don't do Wi-Fi and laptops. They encourage conversation. it's not for everybody... But they are my fav coffee shops in DMV.

Great Staff Owner. Coffee and tea were fantastic! Vanilla Coconut Tea was to die for 10/10.Relaxing, comfortable, and quiet sitting area to drink a beverage and get work done. Got productive studying and assignments done. Good mid day pick me up. Close enough to campus that I don’t have to leave too much time to get to class, but far enough that I am not distracted by everything.
The coffee at this restaurant is excellent, definitely worth five stars! The location is charming, with a few outdoor coffee tables and a couple of rooms inside for seating. Be aware that there is only paid parking available, so walking here is recommended. I would give them 4 out of 5 stars, as the city's mask mandate is optional and masks are required at this establishment.
The coffee at this restaurant gets 5 stars, but by DC standards, it is considered to be quite expensive. I paid $7 plus tax for an iced latte, which I later found out I could get for $4.50 plus tax at emissary x pergamino. Both places are considered third-wave coffee shops. Is the higher price worth it for the experience?
Filter has been a high quality independent coffee place in DC, close to many George Washington University buildings. It was renovated in the last half of 2021, but retained many of the great staff people. Quality coffee, chill atmosphere. The best coffee I've had in DC. The baristas are well-known for their skills in making a medium long black. The only downside is the lack of seating.
