Slightly off the beaten track, the Flame is a great restaurant in Surrey Hills. The owner serves home style Greek food with love. Unlike most Greek places, where the souvlaki spit is a blend of fatty meats, the lamb and chicken here were full cut, top quality and absolutely delicious. The Flame had a great meal, casual atmosphere and good prices. No pretense. Not a fancy set up. It just feels like home. After the lamb off the spit, the saganaki grilled cheese, fresh Greek salad and some veg, we managed to save room for desert. Again, homemade and delicious. The restaurant is in a dry district, and thus allowed BYO. There was no corkage fee, and therefore we were able to bring a nice quality...
From the front it looks like a Greek Take-Away but there is a substantial dining area at the rear. We ordered the $58 Char-grilled platter for 2 and were very happy with it. Assorted char-grilled meats with a nicely cooked vegetable selection. Unlike some Greek restaurants, the size of the platter was perfect for 2. We were able to eat all of it without felling like gluttons. The dining area was nicely presented (if a bit spartan) and the service was prompt and warm. One final point.... my wife thought the lamb needed more herbage, particularly oregano, but I thought it was perfect.
Flame was recommended to us by friends, and we are pleased we followed their advice. Although the decor isn't spectacular, the food is! It is fresh, tasty, and beautifully presented. There is a large selection of foods on the menu. We enjoyed what we ate, and plan to return in the near future to try other dishes. From memory, the Pavlova was on special and reminded me of the pavlovas my grandmother used to make.
Good Greek food. Typical fare, abundant serves and very filling.Grilled cheese and dips were delicious.Chicken slightly dry but otherwise everything was very tasty. Moussaka was especially good.This is a good, suburban, family restaurant. The take-away Souvlaki is also reported to be very goodFriendly staff, quick service and nice atmosphere.Would return again.

Good freshly cooked Greek food - we started with a selection of dips with warm pita bread and then enjoyed the seafood platter - not huge, but enough for two and was quite fresh and tasty. Other tables had chosen from the fairly standard Greek menu and take away is available. Don't visit for the decor or ambience, the restaurant is BYO.
We look forward to our Greek take out nights. It's always a pleasure talking to Sophie, Harry and occasionally Denise- when she is around. The food is tasty, fresh and home cooked. We generally order the lamb, chicken gyros and some pita breads- and take the food home. It is something we really look forward to as it is a real treat.
We've been visiting Flame for over 5 years and have never been disappointed. .even though the decor needs to be upgraded/ replaced, the food and service are good.Just a comment on the roast pork on Sundays...may not always be soft and succulent. ..but the lamb, seafood and chicken are always good.
Really enjoyed this local restaurant with extensive takeaway. Nothing glamorous but great food, lovely staff & reasonably priced. Will definitely become a local fave. If you're feeling like Greek, it will hit the spot!

Good Greek food, lamb & calamari delicious. Good creme caramel for desert. A favourite with our group of friends and the service is always good.
Excellent Greek food - delicious moussaka and great dips! Quiet atmosphere and non-intrusive but very helpful service.
