One star because zero is not available. We were at an afternoon theater we spotted a place called the Flying Pig Around the country that name means BBQ. Here it meant pub and barely a restaurant. My wife looked up the menu and we thought it would be a nice dinner place. First we had to wait to order dinner and the sandwich I wanted was only available during the lunch/brunch. My wife wanted the 2 chicken thigh dinner, I switched my request to the pork belly listed on the appetizer menu. Upon being told they didn 't have the pork belly and after waiting 40 minutes to find out this information I decided to pass on ordering. My wife gave me one of her chicken thighs which I thought were boneless...
Came here with a few friends. We were seated quickly and our server got our drink orders. We then waited for food order it was a busy Saturday night and we were enjoying our conversation so not a problem. Food came missing one order. I ordered the deep fried shrimp and roasted vegetables. The shrimp is very heavily breaded so that the breading to shrimp ratio is off. The roasted vegetables were served in a bowl and swimming in liquid first time I have seen that and not a good taste. We had brunch late yesterday and decided to try the fried chicken benedict. The waitress was friendly and attentive. The Bloody Mary was delicious, especially with the flavored salt rim. The waffle fries were perfectly seasoned and cooked. As for the benedict, the eggs were a bit overcooked, the gravy was alright, the English muffin was fine, and the chicken batter was good although the chicken itself was overdone. The restaurant had a nice décor and the outdoor patio was perfect for enjoying a sunny day.
If you're looking on Yelp at their food photo's don't expect to get a burger or Mac n cheese with pork they only did this as a special a while back. When you ask they laugh at you for asking. We ended up with the Mac n cheese, they added chicken on top that was raw!. The pork ribs over rice, the pork was 90% fat and 10% pork meat. This is one of my favorite restaurants to go to when I'm in downtown Oceanside. They have really good fried chicken and strong drinks. If you like mac cheese and I recommend trying their mac cheese it's super cheesy. All of their drinks are strong and they have unique flavor pairings. The staff is super nice and attentive but the restaurant is a little small but that's typical for DT
My boyfriend and I have been to the Flying Pig about three times. Each time we go, the staff is very attentive and accommodating. The food is always good. I recommend the Brussel sprouts! They're my favorite. The drinks are delicious and the ambiance is perfect for date night. I will definitely be coming more in the future. Overall the price reflects the quality.
I was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. After having breakfast across the street, we decided to give this place a try. We came back in the afternoon and were impressed by everything. The happy hour was fantastic and we will definitely be returning when we are in town again.
