I so wanted to like this cafe being quite close to home and with my daughter and i both having fructose and sorbitol malabsorption.We purchased a voucher from living social and looked forward to trying this after perusing the online menu a few times. Entrees 2x salads to share between the 4 of us were nice, in particular the beef. Main courses came and my 2 flathead tails were so dry i had to leave the outsides and it was served with dry French fries and a pile of salad leaves just like we had with entree only this time they didn't look too fresh. Parma was "ok" according to my husband with soggy breadcrumbs served with french fries and, you've guessed it more salad leaves just like entree....
We get to Fox in the Box infrequently, but when we do, it is hard to pass up their parma. Last night was no exception. The chicken parma was plump, juicy, and tender, and came served on a pile of crispy fries, with a small salad with the sweetest cherry tomatoes. We visited Fox in the Box in late August for lunch. I had a Living Social voucher, so a discounted lunch. I was excited that I would be able to eat food without worrying about eating gluten. (I have coeliac disease.) The food was okay. I shared the squid salad. It was quite plain but the squid was good, not rubbery. I had the chicken parma for main. It was a large serving but the chicken was a bit dry. My partner had a salad. He said it was okay but doesn't remember what it was. My daughter had spaghetti bolognese from the kids' menu. At the end of the dinner i noticed the owner/chef standing at the till and had to go up and thank him for having such a wonderful restaraunt that i can take my wife to and be able to eat anything on the menu. Tim said he was of similiar conditions and gave up his high powered job to set this place up and has been going gang busters ever since. You will not be disappointed in the menu. plenty of choice from meat to vegitarian. We shared the calamari entree then the duck and penne pasta for dinner between 3 of us. Then we shared two desserts - the dark chocolate pudding and the lemon meringue pie. It was all delicious - i loved every bite. My wife was particularly on cloud 9 as she could eat it all being gluten and lactose intolerant. Seriously, she was glowing for some time after the meal. It was even the first time she had had lactose free ice cream with a dessert in a restaurant - let alone a home made one like it was here! The staff were very friendly too. We wish there was a restaurant like this at home in Brisbane.
I was so excited to discover Fox in the box because a family member has a gluten intolerance and this cafe serves allergy free food. It was a disappointment though! The waiter was very casual and not very knowledgeable about the food. A warm lamb salad with quinoa was, in fact, a bowl of rocket, small amount of quinoa and not very nice lamb. Not very enjoyable at all. The chicken schnitzel and chicken Parma were both gluten free and quite tasty. The ambience of the cafe is not very attractive. I really wanted to like this cafe but, unfortunately, I didn't.
No gluten on site makes this an easy choice for when we want to go out with our one coeliac in the family. The food here had been consistently good, reasonably priced and tastes delicious. Kids eat everything on their plates and the staff are very friendly and I have seen them being extremely accomodating to others with food intolerances (egg dairy etc.)If you have a food intolerance, this is the place to go.
It was so nice to have a chicken Parma that I know will not have any consequences! It was HUGE, tasty and hot. Lots of salad and chips. Yum! My partner had the confi duck, that looked and tasted delicious! We will go again!

Great food but even greater passion for food. Talked at great lengths about FODMAP options and alternatives I can adopt for cooking with the extended family.
Really good food, a little funky but tasty and great value. Service was excellent and the host was friendly but unobtrusive. Thoroughly recommend.
