My visit to Frame for a tasting menu dinner left me with mixed feelings. While the food, courtesy of the guest chef, was a true delight for the palate, the rest of the experience fell far short of expectations. The servers seemed to view our simple request to sit together as a major inconvenience, even though an entirely vacant 10-top table was available and unused. Overall, it was cool .. but I'm basing my entire review on the price and what you get for the price. 8 guests and over 1100 dollars bill was a stretch for the experience, service, and food. Service honestly, the chef was bright and vibrant, very happy to be part of the experience. The staff seemed like they were not happy and didn't smile much, almost mad they had to work that day. When you spend the money like we did and the gratuity is already included at the end, and they asked for more, it's a slap to the face. Title: sold a lie or not what I expected.. IDk! Went to one of those food experiences, hated it!! The portions were small, food was blend, and we had to share every food item with our party except the soup shocker! because they only gave us one appetizer very small with crackers that were broken all up!! We had to sit in this cramped small room behind the bathrooms and tables were touching, we were suuuuper close to strangers, I couldn't even bend my arm to pick up my silverware without bumping the poor lady nice lady next to me. We attended the vegan dinner by Chef Michelle Rodriguez a few months ago. Words cannot describe how delicious everything was. There was a mixologist that created a drink pairing for each course. The menu was filling and the flavors were well balanced: 1 Roasted Red Pepper and Tomato soup w/ coconut cream 2 Hearts of Palm Ceviche 3 Grilled Carrots with Lemon Verbena Crema 4 Teff Porridge Fried Chickpeas, Broccoli, Eggplant, Pomegranate Vinaigrette 5 Chocolate Pot de Crème Strawberry Hibiscus Jam, Fresh Berries, Mint, Pistachio Smoked Sea Salt This was a great date night idea. This place is amazing. Wife and I have been here several times and are never disappointed. The menu is a surprise but a very good one. Everything is cooked fresh and has a wine pairing that easily complements each dish. Granted you get the daily special. Service is great. Your questions will be answered about the food and the wine. The best part is that they are expanding so more seating. The place is a bit small and will be sold out often times right when they make reservations available a month in advance..
I arrived at the restaurant without a reservation and was seated promptly. Our server was attentive and informed us that a new chef comes in every month, resulting in a constantly changing menu. The appetizer and drinks were served quickly. I chose the mole short ribs for my main course and it was excellent. The server provided detailed explanations of each dish. The food was delicious and satisfying, and I will definitely consider returning to Frame when I am in the Hazel Park area again. Service: Dine-in.
The restaurant is extremely expensive, with a dinner for two costing $400. Only two courses included meat, actually seafood - diced tuna and fried oysters. There was also an 18% facility charge on top of the food and drink total. This charge does not include tip. I do not recommend this restaurant and will not be returning.
