We wandered here as we didn't know most of the restaurants shut on a Wednesday. What a blessing in disguise, thankfully we popped in early. Staff offered us a table despite us not having a reservation. Whilst throughout the evening, they were turning customers away. There were only two staff members working and the female staff was so polite and friendly. We ordered the salmon, mussels and scallops for our starters. For our main, we ordered the mushroom pasta from the specials menu, the pork dish and the turbot fish dish. Everything exceeded our expectations. We enjoyed our dinner at Francine's. The bistro has a relaxed atmosphere, and the menu offers plenty of choice, with additional specials, e.g, lobster and crayfish bisque (So good! . The service was attentive and not intrusive. Our starters and puddings were really delicious, as was my wife's lamb shank main course; my venison bourgignon was pleasant, but not up to the quality of the other dishes we'd ordered. The venison was tender, but for me, the sauce lacked the full bodied flavour of a bourgignon. Apart from that, it was a great experience, and we'll certainly return when we visit The Lakes. We stumbled across Francine’s after not booking into another venue as they were fully booked, so we decided to try Francine’s and my goodness are we glad we did! The food was truly incredible, every mouthful delivered a punch of flavour. The food all cooked freshly to order and you can see the effort put into each dish including its presentation. Located just off the Main Street being a fairly small venue you might walk past and not realise it being there but we are glad we did! A lovely venue and attentive and friendly staff. Each time we come to Windermere we eat at Francine's. We have never had a bad experience, the food is always excellent, the service is first class and the ambiance is perfect. Would highly recommend a visit, but make sure you book well in advance to avoid disappointment. Vegetarian options: Francine's has been kind enough to prepare a vegan menu for two of our party. Francine’s was recommended by our host, and we were really excited to try it. It lived up to our expectations and they are indeed the best restaurant in Windermere. The food portions were big! Francine's has a great atmosphere, it's why we decided to stumble in. And we're so glad we did.
