I want to start this review by saying I am usually a very fussy eater. I have alot of anxiety/stomach issues which makes choosing somewhere to eat a bit of a debate between me and my Mum. We stumbled upon this cafe purely out of chance and from the outside it doesn 't seem anything special...until you get inside. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. They had a variety of specials on the board and I chose homemade lasagna and garlic bread and my mum chose the quiche and salad. Portion sizes were hearty. The lasagna was definitely homemade, with a hint of rosemary and piping hot, the garlic bread was a very generous portion. Mums slice of quiche was also generous as was her 'side '...
I was in the Newark area which is not an area that's easy to find vegan food. Whilst searching various restaurant websites I came across Gannets and the mention that they can cater for vegans. I rang and was told there were some options available however these are not listed on the menu as vegan. On arrival the lady spoke with the chef who was able to inform which options were vegan. I opted for the Provençal Bean and Vegetable Casserole which was fresh and tasty. Bread was provided as a side and this was served with dairy free spread. We often visit Gannets walk the dog and pop in for coffee cake brunch Sunday breakfast it’s one of our favourite places. It’s always excellent always busy and always consistent. Hence we keep coming back- unbeknown to the staff today was our wedding anniversary 15 years ago we had our reception at Cafe Blu a restaurant which used to be opposite. Today our day was made special by Beth a member of staff who always has a smile and is a consummate professional- she seems cool under pressure and today she went out of our way and it felt special to us. gannets is a long-standing local institution and too right. essential veggie meal times (the mushrooms and hazelnuts lasagne,) lush salads and fabulous coffee and cakes are their main scatter. they are located in a beautiful old building opposite the burg newark. prices fair for the good portions and everything is always fresh and tasty.
I had a wonderful experience at this charming café. The staff was very attentive, the restaurant was spotless, and the breakfast was clearly made with high-quality ingredients at an affordable price. If I lived nearby, I would definitely become a regular customer.
Shared the daily special of a chick peas curry which was plenty for a light meal. Gorgeous friendliness and great service. Lots of tasty looking things on the menu for vegetarians. Proper daily specials and homemade cakes. Outside space. Peaceful.
Stopped for a quick lunch at this place our favourite cafe in Newark. We had vegetarian quiche with salads followed by coffee. It was all tasty, fresh and filling. It is a great place for quick food but can be busy.
