Hallstatt is a tiny place with about 10-15 restaurants, and the ones that face the lake have the advantage of location, so you need good food to generate good reviews and repeat business, and we're glad we chose Gasthof Zauner for our final meal of...our visit. We had the pork schnitzel and enterelles (mushrooms) salad, and two local Austrian beers, and just soaked in the ambiance of the most perfect little Austrian village square. The proprietor was very friendly and taught us some German names for the dishes, and was very entertaining to both customers and chatting with the other shop-keepers. This place was recommended by our hotel and it didn 't disappoint. Hallstatt is still not busy and by the time the buses and day trippers have gone, the restaurants are not that busy in the evening. But this did not impact our experience at Gasthof...Zauner. We ate early and had the "best seat ' in the house inside, and overlooking the markplatz. The food and wine was good. It is a cosy restaurant inside and has outside seating for when the weather is a bit warmer. Thank you Sandra and your team for an enjoyable evening and wish you all the best. Tried to book accommodation here at the beginning of the year but after several attempts via email and a phone call got no reply.This gasthof has been recently renovated and a bar added to the ground floor but it does not seem to be in use as it was close every day during our visit. We ate in the restaurant 3 times during our 5 night stay in Hallstatt as this his a hotel we regularly stayed in. Staff has changed with the result the service is very slow and the food was not quite up to the standard to which we were accustomed here.
upon our arrival the waiter were friendly. However, the menu was limited. After a few drinks, 45 minutes, we were starting to wonder if our food would arrive.. it ended up being cold and the portions were tiny! After telling the waiter about this he...answered „oh, it was cold, huh”.. no further action. We had to remind them about drinks we had ordered several times. Trout was okay however! Oh and they had ran out of potatoes..

Wir waren erst kürzlich dort zum Abendessen, d.h. nach dem touristischen Ansturm. Mein Frau hatte die Reinanke und war begeistert; ich die keltische Kette, welche gut war. Die Mehlspeisen danach waren vorzüglich. Die Bedienung war aufmerksam und man fühlte sich als Gast wohl.
It's a pity that the price performance did not fit. The vegetables reminds me of microwave fast food veggies. It wasn't fresh. The starter bread was old and actually hard. The service was ok. But i wouldn't recommend this restaurant to others.
Fleisch verkocht und zäh. Tut mir leid, dass das Gemüse auf dem Teller nicht frisch aussieht. Nur essbar, weil wir hungrig waren. Wir waren eine Gruppe von 4 Personen und keiner von uns hat das Essen genossen. Ziemlich schrecklich.
Wer ein überteuertes kulinarisches Kabarett der Traurigkeit sucht... nur hereinspaziert!!! Tipp: Slawische Sprachkenntnisse von Vorteil + Föhn zum Auftauen von Vorspeisen und Aufheizen von Hauptspeisen sehr hilfreich!

Das beste Restaurant der Stadt! Kleiner Geheimtipp ist der frisch gefangene Fisch und Kaviar. Das Essen ist sehr schon angerichtet. Das Preis-Leistung ist top.
Wir hatten ein schönes Abendessen zu zweit. Wir bestellten Forelle und traditionelles Wienerschnitzel. Der Service war ausgezeichnet.
