The food was bland. Crab claws with undercooked boiled potatoes did not look or taste appetizing, but my complaint was promptly dealt with my replacement was a big improvement. My real complaint is with the seating arrangements obviously fitting in more customers was more important than the self distancing. I was sitting at the back (near fish tank) with my sister at a table for two either side of us, two other tables for two. However, a group of came in later were seated directly behind me, with one of the guys pushing my chair as he settled himself comfortably into his! I don't usually write reviews but when a restaurant is this good you need to shout it from the thatched roof. We went two nights in a row it's that good. If you love seafood it will be up there with the best restaurant in Ireland but there is plenty on the menu even if fish is not your thing. Cullens at The Cottage is all about quality produce that has such flavour when it comes to your plate you can only be impressed by the chefs in that kitchen. We had the crab claws, crab arancini, spring rolls, surf turf, seafood tangletelli and steak over the two nights and all were exceptional. The bread to start is also the best bread I've had to date anywhere. This is a hidden gem for Ashford Castle...
Our booking was for pm we arrived at and we were seated in a cozy corner of the restaurant. The waiter left us with our menus and took our drinks order The food was amazing from start to finish. It was on the pricey side but when you’ve had a meal so good it was well worth it
