After church on Christmas Eve we decided to go to George’s for supper, having previously checked they were open until 8pm. We arrived at 7.20pm to be greeted with the following statement “it’s only what we’ve got in the cabinet we’re not cooking anymore”. Well we pointed out that with 40 minutes to go until their advertised closing time we expected our order to be meet in full, pointing out that we were ordering what we wanted, and it wouldn’t be wasted food. To face of thunder from the manager that greeted this statement could kill, but she did cook our food and the quality was fine, but there were several customers that either walked away or put up with the situation but weren’t happy. I recently dined at this five-star restaurant and ordered the traditional cod and chips. The crispy batter was delicious, with plenty of perfectly cooked fish inside. The hot chips were ready immediately. The friendly and efficient woman who served us was a delight. Thank you for the great service. They also offer convenient card payment options and a variety of meal deals for families, couples, and singles. Highly recommend this place.
I purchased fish and chips, curry, and peas from George's in Ilkeston last night. It cost over £10. I requested a large fish, but received a small one with more batter than actual fish. I could have bought a huge fish, chips, curry, peas, and a savaloy from a chip shop in Giltbrook or Hilltop for the same price. I will not be returning to George's as I left more food uneaten than consumed. Terrible value for money.
I've been here regularly for years, but unfortunately portions seem to be smaller at lunch time than at evening. Yet prices are the same. I could literally see the bottom of the bare box before I'd started eating. Paying over £5 for 2 small handful of chips and 2 gourjon's isn't really encouraging me to continue my custom here. We go to this chippy every day for the lunch time deals and to say they have gone up to £2.75 we think you actually got more when it was £1 for the deal thinking of going to another chippy we’re u actually get more for a little more to get enough to feed 2 people I have to buy a chip cob just to make more of the deal so costing twice as much
Im not sure how you can justify charging the same price when there is a clear difference in portion size from lunch time to evening, it's actually quite shocking to see the difference. As another local business we use the chip shop as a weekly team treat. Which we will probably be finding somewhere else.
Service is so slow particularly at this one. If Belper and Allestree can get chips out the door within 5 minutes, why can't this one! Won't be going to this one again.

Worst chip shop chips I've ever had. After the first visit I gave the benefit of the doubt but after the second visit, I won't be back. Avoid.
