We dine at Gio’s often and have always had great food and service which has led to repeated visits. Unfortunately, our last visit was extremely disappointing. There were 3 of us dining, we all ordered filets and one was extremely fatty and mostly uneditable. When we brought it to there attention our waitress asked if we had a dog at home we could feed it too. Honestly, we all looked at each other in disbelief and laughed. When we said no her other suggestion was taking it to Pierre.to show him, she then came back and offered a $15 discount or a free dessert. It was a $75 steak! This has been our go to restaurant for special occasions since moving to the area. We have always been very pleased with our meals and service. Our meals on this visit were a mixed bag. My wife ordered a beet salad and salmon. The beet salad was delicious with a generous portion of beets and fresh greens. She was not impressed with the salmon and remarked she had better prepared salmon at 2/3 the price at lesser restaurants. I ordered the roasted pepper and tomato bisque and halibut. The halibut was prepared perfectly with a light breading topping. The portion was generous. The bisque was not to my liking. It was far too rich and did not agree with me. I am a big fan of Veal Scallopini. I ordered this on my visit last evening with my wife and her nephew. What a disappointment! This is a dish that I often cook and enjoy variations of this veal dish at Valerios in Little Italy. To make it properly, the Veal should be pounded thin, (it was), and dipped in a flour salt and pepper mixture and then cooked on each side for no more that one minute. (It wasn't). My veal was way overcooked, leathery, and I made the mistake of taking leftovers home which I will not be eating. It’s been many years since I’ve dined here and the first time with my husband and kids. It was so nice to see that Giovanni’s incredibly high standards are still there after all the decades. The food, the service, everything was incredible. We had Mike as our server and we highly recommend him. Dining here is like no other experience anywhere on Cleveland’s Eastside at all actually anywhere in Cleveland. It is fine dining without an attitude. Carol and Pierre run an amazing, magnificent experience, exquisite service, magnificent food. Our server was attentive beyond belief. It’s the only fire in town that knows how to pour a decent size drink. I would come here every week if I could.
Great place for a birthday dinner. Really enjoyed the Penne with the vodka sauce and Caesar salad. Wife had scallops that she loved and a mixed green salad. Everything was delicious and the staff were beyond helpful.
Outstanding as usual, with an amazing menu for New Year’s Eve. Giovanni’s is one of the most amazing restaurants in Cleveland and I still feel somehow underrated.
