There's so many good restaurants to choose from in Leith/Edinburgh but the Golden Ambal will always be the place to go for dosa. Went with a friend for dinner and unsurprisingly I had a plain dosa for my starter. The chutneys are always delicious but the sambar was the star. I've read online that Indian families will save the sauce from a previous days meal to use as the sambar. In this case it's a simple vegetable curry like a base curry that other curries are made from. It's so good I would be happy with that as a main course. I was looking forward to a lamb vindaloo which was as delicious as I remembered it being. Not only is this a really tasty dish but it also cleared my sinuses and lef...

We went for an early dinner here twice during our short three day stay in Edinburgh because it was the best food we had in Scotland during our two week vacation. We're from California and there are a ton of Indian food restaurants here, but this was the best Indian food we've ever had and we're both going to miss it so much. We especially liked the Tikka Masala, Bindi Do Pyaza and Mushroom Masala. I'm vegetarian and my husband is allergic to wheat/gluten and lactose intolerant and that makes eating out such a headache normally, but Golden Ambal was able to work with our dietary restrictions perfectly. Also, the two servers who attended to us on both days were fantastic. Our food was out rela...
A little away from the hustle and bustle of the main centre this gem serves real Indian food. Chilli chicken crisp yet moist with a slight home style and flavoursome along with onion pakoda balls, and mini masala dosa to start, followed by a spicy paneer masala, chicken biryani and lamb chetinadu. All dishes full of flavour and ‘real’ Indian style. There are plenty of the normal style anglicised curries here, but if you can, try to pick out the Indian gems. Service was a little slow with some kitchen teething issues, but the food was very much worth the little wait. If this was in the centre it would be packed out night after night however being in a quieter area meant a more relaxed eating...
I wonder what the owners did to the waiters but they clearly appeared on some sort of action short of a strike. Despite having a reservation, there was a 5 minute delay in showing us to our table. Then, we were left waiting 20 minutes without be given a chance to order “I’ll be with you shortly” . At this point we left to dine with another place on Leith Walk. During our wait, the restaurant wasn’t overly busy but the waiters were serving drinks from large orders one-by-one… Reserviere jetzt einen Tisch
We booked a table for two for 2pm on Thursday 22nd December. We were looking forward to our meal but when we arrived, on time, the restaurant was closed. There were no notices explaining why it was closed and although they would have had our details from the booking we were not contacted to let us know. We probably would have really enjoyed our meal but obviously we would never risk going again.
An early evening curry, taking advantage of the ‚golden hour‘ discount. Small but well presented, reasonable prices, and swift attentive and friendly service. The food (King Prawn/spinach, and Chicken Kodai mains, bindi side dish, rice, Nan) was excellent, tasty without being too rich. Highly recommended.
I was not expecting too much here so was delighted to find that their South Indian food was excellent. Even more excited to find out that you can get a proper South Indian thali at lunch time on Saturdays and Sundays. A very good experience all round.
Nice authentic and tasty food! Service was a little slow at the start and table not fully set but once all up and running was very good! I would definitely visit again despite this as the food was very nice. Reserviere jetzt einen Tisch
Fabulous meal for my mother in laws birthday. Excellent food, service and value. Great vegetarian and vegan options. Thanks for a great night and the surprise birthday cake. Sam and his team are the best!!
