Yes, that's how long Mme. has personally been running Gourmet Italian, right on the Port at St. Jean Cap Ferrat.My wife and I have been there on a number of occasions and have never once been disappointed.Today (30 Dec. '15) we sat out front enjoying remarkably good weather and too, a faultless lunch.Our Salade Nicoise starting courses were as fresh as the proverbial daisy. Their composition was authentic and noticeably well arranged - not just 'thrown together'. Moules Mariniere, along with a side of hand-cut frites for my wife and Tagliolini with a seafood ragout for me. Both dishes were formidable.A 50 cl. Stayed at the Four Seasons for a few days in Cap Ferrat. Was in the mood for some good italian being from NY originally. Concierge recommended Gourmet Italien so we went. Read all the reviews and was a little nervous. Don't be. Meal was great. Started with the octopus salad and the buff mozzarella for my wife. Both were very good. Then we each had pastas. Mine with clams and mushroom for my wife. Both were delicious and nice size portions. For dessert we shared the homemade tiramisu. Other than my friend Maria it was the best I have had. We were greeted by a flustered and bad tempered waiter. He pointed to our table. We waited 15 minutes before being offered a drink. Another 15 minutes to see the menu. Eventually we ordered. My main course arrived almost an hour later. The food was barely edible. I had finished my food when my partners food arrived. His pizza was disgusting.We asked 5 times for butter which arrived after we had eaten the bread. We asked 4 times for the bill which took an age to arrive.At no time was an apology offered.The waiter became extremely abusive when I did not give them a tip!DO NOT GO TO THIS DREADFUL PLACE - there are many great places in Cap Ferrat - this is not one of them.......
Read previous reviews but husband wanted Italian so we came here. The restaurant serves ok food. Pasta better than the pizzas, seafood poor. The service abrupt and extremely slow. The main issue is with the male owner. If you were watching on tv would be funny, but sadly this is no comedy sketch. He has a very bad temper and unkind. Really spoilt the meal. Watching arguments he had with other guests. He really would be better suited away from front of house. Certainly wouldn't recommend or return - would rather catch my own!
My wife and I eat at "Le Gourmet Italien" about once a year, generally with friends. I cannot remember a single instance where it was not of the highest quality, although the price can be a significant deterrent. Recently, the mussels I had there nearly had me crying of joy. I am not aware of any better ones, anywhere. Highly recommended for those who are food connoisseurs. It is still much cheaper than starred restaurants of comparable quality. The restaurant's Lady owner and the main waiter are also most pleasant people.
Had a very nice Pizza here. I didn't like that they were watching a football match and were shouting. When I went back two days later at 18:30 I was told that the restaurant opens at 19:00 in a very bad way which made me go to eat some where else. In the meantime there were other people there drinking. The waiter could of asked me to stay for a drink until the kitchen opens, which I would.
Our friend who lives and works in St Jean recommended Gourmet Italian to us and it was wonderful. We have brilliantly prepared food that was well priced and washed down with a lovely bottle of Rosé. The family that own it, run it and are great hosts. Most of the people who were there with us were obviously regulars and had great chat with the host and hostess. Go you won't be sorry.
Boring Italian food at premium prices. The Madame owner was kind and translated the items well. Her service was good. The food was presented well but was not anything special. 19€ for a pizza when you can get a better one on the corner for 8€ was a bit insulting. The salad was fresh and well dressed but that was the only thing that I enjoyed at this establishment.
Had a lovely dinner here, it was very busy so do book a table. A few groups and lots of couples. The salads were great, the spaghetti seafood was the star! Service was good, they are probably short one waiter.
