Located at 1340 Thomas Avenue in Saint Paul and established for nine years, Groundswell is no longer just a hipster hangout but a welcoming space for everyone. The coffee shop, now also serving food, offers a variety of local goods for purchase with proceeds supporting local services. Despite some issues with expediting orders, the wait for delicious food and drinks is worth it. The Drip Coffee and seasonal Muffin were decent, but the Minnesota Cookie was a standout with a perfect balance of flavors. The Earl Grey Waffle, recommended by many, was a light and delightful way to end brunch, with distinct Cornmeal and Tea flavors complemented by Whipped Cream, Blackberries, Honey, and housemade...
I revisited in 2018 with some friends and we experienced long wait times for our food. One dish took nearly 30 minutes longer than the others, which was a disappointment as we were hoping to eat together. While we waited, we didn't see the chef in the kitchen much. Additionally, I witnessed him taking out the trash and then returning to cook without washing his hands. I spoke to the owners about this and they offered us a free meal as compensation, but by that point, it was my fifth visit and I had no desire to return.
Groundswell has absolutely incredible cupcakes!!! I?m totally addicted. Their coffee and brunch are delightful too. I love how spacious and bright the space is, and the staff is always friendly. This was my go-to study spot in college, but I?ve continuedcoming here, even though I now live in Minneapolis. I really enjoyed the holiday market they hosted last December, and Iappreciate that they highlight local artist. This is truly a neighborhood spot, and it?s worth the trip!
I have been visiting this fantastic neighborhood coffee shop on a weekly basis for the past few years, and it is definitely my favorite place to be (especially when I need to do homework). The staff at Groundswell are amazing, the food is always fresh and delicious, the coffee is top-notch, and you would be hard-pressed to find a coffee shop in the area with better natural lighting and good work tables. This cafe is amazing! We visited on a Sunday morning, walking over from our AirBnb, and we were so glad we did. The atmosphere is very relaxed and the interior is beautifully decorated. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. I highly recommend this place! The chai tea was delicious and perfectly spiced. Be sure to check out the entire cafe, there are cute booths in one area. Overall, this cafe is a hidden gem in St. Paul.
This restaurant is perfect for both large groups and individuals. They offer delicious breakfast options with a wide variety of bakery items and coffee. The atmosphere is clean and has a youthful vibe. The indoor seating area can get busy, but there is outdoor seating available when the weather is nice. Street parking is the only option, so you may have to walk a short distance to the restaurant.
This restaurant offers milk and their vegan options are quite tasty. While I don't usually visit for a full meal, it's comforting to know they have something to snack on during long study sessions.
