The baba ganoush was probably one of the best I’ve had anywhere. Smokey, smooth, with some olive oil and pickled chilli to kick the flavours up a notch. The baked cauliflower was also pretty special. The cauliflower was tender but had a baked edge that made it delicious against the yogurt and pomegranates scattered on top of it. We also had the tabouleh salad, and that was tangy and refreshing. Balagan is Melbournes new hot spot and definitely has the food to deliver. Went on a Saturday night expecting to have a little middle eastern before a big Saturday night. Things quickly changed when I decided I needed to try more of the amazing venue and cash in my dancing shoes to try more on the menu! Everything was amazing, the cauliflower, lamb, and Hommus were all my favourites. I was that excited, I needed to try the dessert and the halva just ticked all the boxes. I rarely give a 5 out of 5 but I have done it here... no need to book your trip with El Al airlines to Israel when you have Balagan now open.
To start with, the score primarily reflects the delightful flavors and tastes, but I wouldn’t categorize this as a great value for money. Vegetables are the stars here, featuring dishes like roasted beets and eggplant. While they are tasty, the portion sizes are a bit small for the price. The larger options, such as the beef brisket, rice, and roasted chicken, help to balance this out. Although they are priced at just over double that of the smaller dishes, they are likely 3 to 4 times more satisfying. Overall, it’s a lovely place to dine.
Balagan roughly translates to mess, chaos, confusion or disorder. But the new High Street, Windsor venue of the same name is anything but. Despite what the Yiddish term implies, Balagan Kitchen is a thoughtful and orderly enterprise with its roots deeply embedded in Israeli Jewish cuisine. I dined with a large group of friends on a weekday, and we opted for a banquet-style menu, which allowed us to sample a wide array of dishes from Balagan. The flavors of the food were fantastic, and everything was fresh and unique. The service was excellent, and the atmosphere was lively, although it got a bit noisy as the restaurant filled up. I will definitely return!
Tasty middle eastern food! Whilst you may have to wait on Saturday night for a table, the food is worth it. As a group we got a variety of entrees to share and they were all delicious. The main, lamb shawarma was however average it was more like pulled beef. Overall a good meal.
This is undoubtedly the best Middle Eastern food I’ve experienced in Melbourne. The falafel balls are incredibly soft and delicious. The dessert, a bread and butter pudding infused with chocolate and cinnamon, was fantastic. The service is relaxed and very friendly.
Went to Balagan on a Sunday night. The place was busy. Had some suggestions from our waiter Cal. We thought we ordered too much but the food was so delicious we ended up eating most of it. Really tasty. Great staff. Will definitely go back Reserviere jetzt einen Tisch
One of the best falafels I’ve had outside of Israel the pita was a highlight! All the food we ordered was amazing (falafel pitas fattoush salad and waiters were not only charismatic and funny but also very helpful :
