Happy Phoenix, located near the Chapel Street shopping district, offers affordable, delicious, and generous portions of authentic Chinese cuisine. The Panda and Mongolian beef were both sweet and savory, while the squid and calamari were also recommended. Don't miss out on the fried ice cream for dessert. The service was quick and the staff were very friendly. The only downsides were the presence of MSG in some dishes and the cramped space. Overall, I fell in love with Happy Phoenix and will definitely be returning with friends to try more of their menu.
Meeting up with a friend for an early dinner, I stopped at a nearby shop to purchase a nice bottle of Riesling before we settled in at one of Happy Phoenix's laminate tables. The service was friendly and efficient, and an hour and a half later, we left feeling satisfied and content after enjoying steamed dumplings with sweet and sour sauce, satay beef, mapo tofu, and special fried rice. A classic fried ice cream dessert rounded off the meal perfectly. Thank you, Happy Phoenix! We will definitely be returning.
I feel like people who go here buy almost the same dishes; salt pepper calamari, Mongolian beef, honey chicken, lemon chicken, or mapo tofu. Not that I'm complaining, they're really good actually. But just a tip if you don't like sweet taste on your main dishes (hey some people prefer savory when eating asian food with rice), the Mongolian beef is sweet and has big portion that when I first tried it (shared for two people), I couldn't finish it. Overall, this place is good and owner is so polite to customers.
Really enjoy this place. Honestly went here because Green Dragon is closed for refurbishment next door but was pleasantly surprised. Cheap and cheerful and actually really tasty. Serving sizes are generous and how doesn't love free prawn crackers with a larger order. Favourites are the lemon chicken and special combo. Local Chinese restaurant which reminds me of going out for dinner with the parents when I was young. Very western style dishes and extremely hot and fresh. Prices are fantastic and I like the food, I don’t mind fluro sweet and sour with some special fried rice local spot and if you live within walking distance go get a mid week feast. Thanks
A huge local favourite. The fried chicken with spicy salt is one of the greatest delights in my life and you should make it one in yours. I have takeaway most weeks and its always 10mins to pick up. Delicious and who can resist free prawn crackers. Skip Green Dragon next door, this is way better.
