Went today for Sunday lunch, we were told roast of the day was beef. There was a sign behind the bar saying, no steak pies. My husband and I thought, that’s not good as we were going to have pie. We looked through the menu and settled on slow roast beef, not our usual choice as we like our beef pink. When it came we had one slice of dry beef you could sole your shoes with. I said this beef is tough can I have chicken instead? One of our party had chicken and it looked good. She said that she would have a word with the chef. Took my plate with her. Came back with my plate and said chef can cook me a chicken breast but it would take time or he could slice me some pink beef and heat up in gravy...
The Hare and Hounds Country Pub was the closest inn to us during our stay in Hebden Bridge, and we were pleasantly surprised by its wonderful location and excellent atmosphere. It is clearly a family-friendly pub that is popular with locals, bed and breakfast guests, hikers, and tourists alike, making it feel welcoming and inclusive. After a rainy Sunday exploration of the local area, we decided to dine at this restaurant and enjoyed a delicious meal in a cozy setting. A welcoming log burning fire added to the atmosphere. The restaurant was bustling when we arrived, which is always a good sign of its reputation. We were referred here by the owner of a nearby sandwich shop and we were pleased that we took their recommendation. The food was tasty and we appreciated the unique decorations throughout the pub, especially as a fan of Alice in Wonderland. We had been wanting to try this place for a while after seeing the amazing pictures of the meals on Facebook but we ended up a little underwhelmed. I had the fish and chips and my wife had a chicken roast dinner. My chips were absolutely amazing, probably the best I've ever had but the fish was very thin and scrawny and a little bit over cooked. My wife said her chicken was a bit dry, and the portions of potatoes and vegetables were a bit stingy. I really wanted to try a beer but was put off by the silly prices so we had a coffee instead which we regretted as it tasted just like warm milk. Power cut for a birthday staff lit candles and we played board games which, to be honest, was actually quite nostalgic and cosy. Landlord went all the way down to the works and sorted out the energy company to refuel the generator and a good night was had by all!! Thanks James legend mate, saved the day. My family and I had an incredibly delicious meal today. The food was prepared flawlessly, with everything cooked to perfection, and the steak we ordered was the best we have ever had! Every dish tasted like it was made at home and the overall dining experience was fantastic. We traveled from Edinburgh and were on holiday in Hebden Bridge. The Hare and Hounds restaurant was definitely worth the visit!
