A party of 35 of us Retired People attended Harry Ramsdens, Brighton for a set lunch. Tea and Coffee Orders taken promptly. Some Teas arrived and the Main Course of Fish and Chips started to be served, the rest of the Teas arrived. My meal arrived the smallest piece of Fish I have ever seen (when I was an Angler I threw back fish this size). Approx 5 forks, half full of fish later and all that was left was dried up batter. The good bits. The batter was light and crisp. The fish was nice as were the mushy peas and tartare sauce. Chips ok. The bad. I’m used to fish and chips in Whitby. I once asked for a large fish and chips in Trenchers only for the waitress to assure me regular would be more than enough, she was right. In this establishment we ordered regular meals. If this was really a regular portion I would advise anyone to order the large, or probably better still go somewhere else. Our meals were served on a small (and I mean small) oval plate. Our friends bought us a voucher for afternoon tea. Wish we hadn't bothered! Food was cold! How can it be cold in a fish chip shop? The waiting staff were lovely and very apologetic. They offered us another one buy we didn't want to risk it! We had waited 40 mins for the food and they knew we were coming! So we were a little bit bemused why it was cold! After waiting another 35 mins after eating what we could we decided to give the puddings that were part of the deal a miss. The worst fish and chips I'd ever had. I ordered small cod and chips my friend ordered the pensioners meal. Her food came with dessert and tea. The pensioners meal was, as I say cheaper and meant to be half the calories but both meals were the same size miniscule!!! The fish was all batter and the actual fish was so dry chewy and unpleasant . We had to pay upfront I should have complained but it wouldn't have done any good. The meal was also cold . I don't know when it had been cooked but it hadn't been recently. Do not go to this venue, a horrible experience. Had been given a gift for a 60th birthday present.My twin and our other halves waited 40 minutes only to receive cold food for an afternoon tea with Prosecco. When our server asked us if everything was ok we mentioned that it was cold, to be fair she did offer more food, however after the previous 40 minute wait we declined. Looked very busy so we decided to try it on our short break but was disappointed not as busy as seemed staff looked like they had just woken up tables not cleared and for some reason they were sitting tables of two on tables of four that caused problems when larger tables came in and we have been in this industry for over thirty years and when you get warm food on a cold plate there is only one thing that is going to happen and sadly to say the food does not live up to the name as had better quality and tasting food from one of the sea front take always and as this was our first brake in five years was not happy

The restaurant was extremely busy but the manager/host and staff did a really good job all with a smile. Really good fish and chips.
