We're huge fans of Hawaiian Shave Ice—Wailoa's in Honolulu is our go-to spot—so we knew that we wouldn't quite be getting the same experience based on the name alone. However, after seeing another review mention Matsumoto's, we decided to give it a shot. While it doesn't quite measure up to Matsumoto's, it is definitely superior to most shave ice found on the mainland. The texture of the ice is much finer than a typical snow cone. I would have rated it four stars, but the price of $7 each felt a bit steep. We sampled a variety of flavors: root beer, strawberry, cherry, lime, and passion fruit. Overall, the flavors were quite good, with the passion fruit standing out as the best of the bunch.
