I'm not quite sure how long this restaurant has been around, but we heard by word of mouth. Tucked away from the usual restaurant trade that seems to have consumed most of Cleveland and Raby Bay, it is definitely worth the effort to go and find it! Nothing is more satisfying than a great home cooked meal, am I right? Truly European in essence and you absolutely MUST BRING YOUR APPETITE, this quaint little restaurant is value for money, great variety of choice and massive servings. The restaurant was highly recommended, but unfortunately, we had a few incidents, which spoilt our visit. One of the group tripped on a traffic bollard at the entry, damaging her shoe. We noticed others arriving, tripping on the same obstruction! Something needs to be done about it before there is a major accident because of it. We were seated inside, on our request, and asked that the ceiling fan above us be turned off. This never happened, although the waitress said she would see to it. Coffees were ordered for each of us, and 3 of the 5 were barely luke warm. Not a good start. We didn't even know this restaurant existed until we visited with a group of neighbours. They had been numerous times before and were enthusiastic in their praise of the quality and serving sizes. Our first visit was on a busy Friday night and we found it a bit noisy inside but the staff handled our request to move outside smoothly and without fuss. As well as the blackboard special we each had a different selection from the interesting menu (don't be afraid to ask for a different mix of sauces or sides) and everybody found their meal to be great. We went last night, Wednesday, booked a table for four of us at 7.00pm. It was not very busy around two dozen customers. Took twenty minutes before the waitress got to our table, that's okay. Our orders were taken, no entrees as the meals are quite large,two orders of Lamb Chops, one of Stroganoff and a Chicken Schnitzel. An hour ten later it arrived.Food was great, but the service is just so slow. This is our second time, last time there was a tripped fused in the kitchen and again an hour and half due to this as all our order was reheated in the oven as opposed to the micro wave oven. Three of us enjoyed a wonderful meal here on a Tuesday evening. Being BYO we took our own wine and were provided with an ice bucket and appropriate wine glasses. The name describes the type of menu provided. I can vouch for the veal schnitzel, the veal goulash and the pork hock, all accompanied by beautiful red cabbage, salad and potato in various styles of cooking. The servings are very generous and we really had no room for desert but felt compelled to try the sour cherry strudel . This is the real deal! Absolutely recommend for the delicious flavours & generous portions! Lamb ghoulash with egg noodles (spaetzel), pork belly was divine! Sour cherry strudel was to die for!! Not to mention the great value $5 Sunday brekkie! Everything in this place sparkles, from the glassware to the genuinely lovely German waitress who even wrote down some places to go Germany. She was a real credit to the overall charm & ambience of this great European experience! Each time we come we are impressed! We will be back again soon! Thanks!
Not a fantastic first impression as piped music was a little loud (had to ask them to turn it down) and service was a little slow (over 45mins from order to delivery), however, it all picked up from there. All members of our party commented on the delicious, generously portioned meals all cooked to perfection. Salads were fresh and prices were very reasonable. In light of some members of our party commenting on their favorable previous experiences here, happy to return despite the initial couple of issues. Absolutely, we will be back!
Nice local cafe/restaurant, friendly staff. We just popped in on passing on a Sunday evening. Good selection on the menu, European influence. We had the fish ( Barra) large & no bones (well done) & Cabbage rolls. both came with a large salad and fries. Honnestly you dont need both. Both were well cooked . Solid value for money. We've been there a four times since they opened with different groups of friends. Imre, the chef and owner, and his staff were friendly and quick to respond to our requests, particularly given how busy the restaurant has been each tome we've been there. The meals are big, so you will never leave there hungry. We can also recommend their Sunday breakfast, from $4.99 it is great value.
