I have eaten at both locations and work in hospitality. The team could not be more thorough and happy to be working there together. I was supposed to make my friends anniversary birthday dinner but couldn’t due to a bad motor vehicle accident I was in. Over the phone although busy Veda at the Waterbury location took the time to allow me to by my friends the entire dessert menu and read all of the options to me. An amazing assortment as always. After hearing about Hen of the Wood all year, I finally got a chance to go. The coolest part about this place is the setting, the dining room is a gorgeous old building overlooking a stream with a rustic atmosphere yet upscale atmosphere. That pairedwith seasonal food and impeccable service makes for a truly special experience. The food is good, but not life changing. Mysteak was a little undercooked and under seasoned, the beets were very average as well. Stick with the small plates, and youshould be good. The maple tart I had for desert was perhaps the single most memorable desert I have had in recent memory. Trulydelicious!
If you loved the original Hen of the Wood, you'll find the new location in a former bank with a pricey parking lot quite disappointing. The charm of the old spot, complete with its waterfall and relaxed atmosphere, has been lost entirely. As for vegetarian options, there are very few—mostly just small sides. And the parking situation is frustrating, costing $17 for just two hours without any prior notice. I would much prefer to drive around for a while to find cheaper or even free parking.
The food was spectacular. We started with homemade coppa and hen of the woods mushrooms, followed by the most incredible duck breast I’ve ever tasted—so tender and rich, it reminded me of foie gras, and it was absolutely divine. The chittara pasta with ramps was also delightful. One of the best parts was that we never felt rushed to leave our table. The wine list was impressive too. Beautiful space with a lovely daily menu. However the wait staff service didn?t give the touch that I expected for this price point. I enjoyed the skate cheeks and dessert, we chose the simple sorbet option. For the entree I was disappointed that theonly vegetarian option was pasta. I had hoped for an original mushroom based dish or something ?veggie creative.?
Fantastic, cozy place with a wonderful menu. Ideal for a romantic evening or a special occasion. My only request is for a more distinctive side dish to accompany the steak. I would definitely return during our next visit to Vermont!
This restaurant is fantastic! We enjoyed a wonderful meal in a beautiful setting. It's the best we've experienced in Vermont. I could happily eat the mushroom toast with bacon and a poached egg every day!

The food was outstanding, but the atmosphere felt quite stiff and somewhat pretentious. The lack of a simple greeting at the door was also disappointing.
