it's been a long time, but so glad they're back in power. as always, the most attentive and courteous employees who are everywhere to be found. our server was kendall, an extremely pleasant and knowledgeable young woman. I never had a server with how that wasn't. she explained everything in detail, offered great suggestions and also offered options. the pork bell was fantastic, had still left to the breakfast today. the rib for two was fantastic, and had this fine wood-drilled taste, boiled to perfection. Although I still don't like kale, it was good here. the prices are up as everywhere, but I would rather eat here than much less restaurants, so it is worth it. a unique and pleasant experie...
Not sure I can say anything that hasn't already been said, but this is probably one of the best restaurants I've been to in the US. Every single item we ordered was clearly designed with intention and made with care. Unique combinations of seasonal ingredients peach, corn, and brie in the appetizer, for example were a real treat. And the local LaPlatte beef was simply stellar. It's a splurge and you might have to book a ways out depending on the season, but it's absolutely worth it.
Had a lovely dinner there seated in their Butcher Room, a private dining area perfect for our group of 8. Service was excellent great recommendations for wine pairings and local cheeses and very attentive to specific food allergies in our group. Overall, I'd say the food was very, very good, but not special. A really nice dining experience. Dietary restrictions: Very accommodating. Customized a plate or two and advised us on the ingredients of every dish.
There's a reason Hen of the Wood is fully booked for weeks in advance. Fantastic food, excellent service, great cocktails. Try to get a reservation when you're in town, you can activate the notification on the reservation website for last minute cancellations if the day and time you're looking for isn't available. great food! we sat in the kitchen bar and saw how the kitchen staff had their magic weave. it was fascinating to observe people, their jobs.especially as they were so good in it. the place has a great mood: comfortable casual but very well managed and professional. we have a new favorite restaurant in burlington now.
