Our family ate two breakfasts at High Wheeler Cafe while visiting Baddeck, NS in July. We tried the scone with fruit combination, the smoked salmon on a bagel with cream cheese and onions, the smoothie breakfast bowl and the Quinoa breakfast wrap. The scones are the biggest I've seen and they have generous pieces of apple and cranberry or blueberry. The fresh fruit bowl was a refreshing and generous combination of apples, melon, and other fresh fruit. The smoked salmon was pretty standard but all toppings were fresh. The Quinoa breakfast wrap was a blend of quinoa, scrambled egg, avocado, tomato, lettuce in a whole wheat wrap. Very nice change from the standard eggs/bacon/toast. A generous h...
Baddeck is a quaint and rather historic town to stop in before you begin your Cabot Trail journey. We stopped for lunch and picked High Water Cafe because it was really busy - which we considered a good sign. I ordered the black bean quinoa salad and my boyfriend had the seafood chowder and a salad. We both enjoyed our meals - the salads were extremely fresh and tasty. The only negative to share is that it took an excessively long time for our food to come out. We were on a motorcycle and wanting to stay ahead of the rain so the slow service wasn't appreciated.
Ordered the smoked salmon, tomato and cream cheese bagel and a cup of coffee. Coffee was weak and tasteless. Bagel nice and soft but you could hardly find the smoked salmon and the tomatoes were quite tasteless. Don't put sub-par produce out! Also smothered in raw red onion. Would have been enhanced by some capers, lemon and dill. Still with a visit since there are few other options for a quick breakfast in walking distance of the hotels. Other baked goods looked nice.
We got breakfast at the High Wheeler Cafe each day while in Baddeck. The staff was friendly and the breakfast sandwiches/wraps and oatcakes were awesome. The scones are MASSIVE and tasty.I thought the coffee was only so-so, hence the 4 star rating, but everything else was great. I would go back here in a minute when back in Baddeck. We enjoyed lunch here , I had the chicken wrap which was not only delicious but low fat as well. Loved that there were apples in the wrap and the dressing was lite and very tasting . We ate outside and although it's a little crowded , it's fun to watch the crowds as they stroll along the sidewalks.
Our bus tour included box lunches made to order from this wonderful establishment. I had the turkey sandwich on wheat bread. The bread alone was so thick and moist. The lunch also include two huge cookies.
Both the food and service are particularly good. It has a really tasty breakfast and lunch menu with a variety of choices to please everyone. The staff are friendly and efficient.
