The brisket tacos were fresh and flavorful—the brisket had a smoky taste and wasn’t greasy, the slaw was crunchy, and the onion straws were perfectly crispy. We didn’t even feel the need to use any sauce. My daughter raved about the chicken quesadilla, saying it was phenomenal with its smoky chicken, cheese, and numerous toppings to choose from. The mac and cheese side was creamy and had a hint of horseradish, giving it a delightful little kick that was just right.

After going on a nice drive through the smokey mountains we came across this place nestled in the side of the hill i had the 3 meat platter with Brussel sprouts and collard greens the people i was with said there food was excellent also. Can't say enough good about this place ! It was excellent. The staff was friendly the food was wonderful and a nice view while dining outside you can dine inside if you want also. This place has to be the best kept secret in North Carolina . I truly hope to visit again in the spring.....to the staff nice going guys I truly enjoy my visit to your establishment......
On a BBQ scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is Red Lobster and 10 is Charlie Vega's, I would rate Highlands Smokehouse at a solid 7. I'm quite particular about my barbecue, so the average diner might appreciate it even more than I did. The ribs were excellent on their own, though they came off the bone a bit too easily for my liking. The onion strings were tasty, and the okra was among the best I've ever had. It's definitely not pretentious—just a genuine, down-home BBQ spot. Overall, I give the experience 4 stars.
I had a pound of brisket with BBQ beans, and it was delicious! The sloppy joe with Brunswick stew was excellent as well. The Brussels sprouts were fantastic too. However, I found the menu a bit unclear. The two meals, four sides, and two drinks totaled $60.50, which was a bit more than I anticipated, but the food was so good, and the place was very clean. I still recommend it as a nice spot!

We've been to the Highland Smokehouse several times over the years. It's about 1.5 hours from the house, reached by taking some beautiful roads. They've changed owners or management a few times, but it's alway worth the trip. The burnt ends appetizer was recommended by an acquaintance, and they were spot on. Forgot to take a picture before diving in, but that's how good it is.
Me and my family tried this place while on vacation and really enjoyed it. The food was a tad pricey but the amount they give you is well worth the cost. It was some of the best bbq we have had in a long time. Brisket, pulled and chopped pork, ribs and chicken were all tried. Very good. The staff was also very kind and helpful with things needed.
Ok, I rarely write reviews. Simply put, this place is phenomenal. The staff is friendly AND EFFICIENT. The food is the star attraction. We had the burnt ends which were DELICIOUS. My wife had sides of okra, slaw, (must get the brussels) and the perfect Mac and cheese. I may have to go back tomorrow. 5+ P.S. We went back the next day. Seriously.
Food was fresh, cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious! Entire staff was smiling, friendly and looked like they were enjoying their day. Loved being able to sit outside under an umbrella on the second story deck. Great experience... we'll definitely be back!

Terrific food and atmosphere. Changed other plans so we could eat at the Smokehouse on additional days. Smoked pork and smoked chicken tacos were perfect.
