Arrived at approx 7 pm on a Sat. Greeted promptly , sat.. given glass of water and menu. 20 mins later approached for order. Never asked if i wanted something to drink besides water....I went ahead and ordered a Bali sushi roll and hibachi chicken dinner. Roll to come out first. Nope... soup and salad delivered first. Both were ok ..except size of salad..miniscule. taste of soup and salad was fine. Next up ..entree delivered...VERY disappointed just looking at it...about half a cup of fried rice ...taste was bland, veg that was mostly onions and mushroom with 1 piece of carrot...again bland. Hibachi chicken...should have called it boiled chicken pure white with a tasteless watery sauce ..if...
Hiro has to be our favorite local restaurant, hands down. It's a sushi restaurant with an owner/operator, Howard, who has a memory like an elephant and will remember all of his guests and details about them that you would not expect even closer relatives to remember (he will ask about my son who lives on the other side of the country and ate with us one time while visiting). His wife handles all the Sushi orders, his son handles anything that requires cooking outside of the sushi. Very family owned and oriented... We've eaten here four times and had only small success and favor with their rolls, the last couple of times we've ordered the tempura and it's been fabulous, some of the best I've had. Shrimp or chicken, sweet potato, squash, broccoli, and super mild onion all tempured just perfectly. There's not much tempura in Montrose so finding this was a prize. The service is good and the cherubic owner is there with smiles and bad puns... very friendly, never obtrusive. We will definitely be back.
I haven’t tried their sushi but I got their Hibachi Chicken and it wasn’t great, especially for $20. The chicken was dry and bland, rice was sitting in a pool of sauce and the veggies weren’t the typical zucchini and onions that most hibachi restaurants serve. This will be my go to spot for Japanese. The owner is great, very personable and makes sure to talk to all of his guests and get to know them. The food is great and service is superb. Did I come to this place with my bosses and friends, the owners of Sherpa Cafe in Crested Butte and Gunnison? Great food and service, felt friendly, as if it was someone at home, was not too busy and did not have to wait for seats. Very spacious rooms and grateful the tables were stuffed. Also very affordable???
Not as great as we were expecting. We got some sushi rolls and their chicken ramen. They were ok. Presentation of the rolls was mediocre and the quantity per order was inconsistent. Ambience was dull, and had an unpleasant smell similar to wet dirty rags. Came out dissapointed.

Owners were so sweet and the food was amazing! We had the chicken hibachi and it was so good! I also recommend the strawberry mochi ice cream that was the perfect delicious desert. : Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
