Da dieses Restaurant einen sehr guten Ruf hat, haben wir uns entschieden, es auf unserer Wanderung von Gais nach Hirschberg auszuprobieren. Es war ein wunderschöner sonniger Tag und wir saßen draußen auf der Bank. Die Aussicht war fantastisch, gesegnet mit einer klaren Sicht auf die ... Alpen. Wir hatten einfache Schweizer Gerichte. Der Salat war wunderschön angerichtet und auch die saisonalen Bärlauch Spätzli waren sehr geschmackvoll, ebenso der Wurstsalat. Der Service war freundlich. Es gibt auch hausgemachte Kuchen und eine lokale Spezialität namens Birnenbrot. Wir sind zu satt, um es zu probieren, aber es riecht verlockend.
The Hoher Hirschberg Restaurant makes a lovely, short hike up from the village Gais. The view is superb! Although we unfortunately hiked up on the day the restaurant was closed, they had thoughtfully left snacks and drinks in a small refrigerator case on the terrace. A small sign gave the price of each item and there was a small coin box for leaving your payment. We bought a view items and had a lovely, quiet lunch on the terrace. We then took a separate path back down to Gais, enjoying the spring wildflowers all the way down. A lovely outing, even though the restaurant was closed!
This restaurant has a very good reputation, so we decided to try it out on our hike from Gais to Hirschberg. It was a beautiful sunny day and we sat on the bench outside. The view was fantastic, blessed with a clear view of the Alps. We had simple Swiss dishes. The salat was beautifully presented and the seasonal Bärlauch Spätzli was also very tasteful, so is the sausage salat. The service was friendly. They also have home made pies and a local speciality called pears bread, we are too full to try but it does smells tempting.
Located at the summit of a small mountain in the Appenzell Canton of Switzerland, less than 30 minutes by car from St. Gallen, this restaurant offers local food in a traditional chalet. The panoramic views are nothing short of spectacular, surrounded by farms. The food was good, offering both self-service and a la carte options. It was very busy and service was slow because of that, but nevertheless worth a visit. It is especially nice for families with children.
Today it felt like spring, warm temperature and sun. A great day to take the convertible for a drive.A bit outside if the city if Appenzell, a drive through some narrow roads you get to the parking. A stroll of 5 minutes brings you to the restaurant.Warm interior with loads of charm, nice deserts and good food. The service us a bit difficult due to no clear definition on who is in charge of the tables.Enjoyed the view and can recommend the place ;)

Sitting outside in good weather, one can enjoy local delicacies while admiring the gorgeous scenery all around. If you're fit, it's a 40-minute walk up the hill from the main road, if you're not, it can be reached by car. Overnight accommodation available. Very friendly.
Wir machten während einer Wanderung eine Mittagspause und hatten ein tolles Essen. Die Bratwurst und die Pommes waren großartig, ebenso der gemischte Salat.
Friendly people, nice and delicious food, good location and good prices. Wonderful bakery. Nice view to the mountains Säntis and hoher Kasten.
