this review is for takeout only doordash).i saw a lot of good reviews for honshu on yelp/google reviews and was craving ordering sushi for lunch, so i ordered honshu off of doordash. i got the maki deluxe set which comes with 3 handrolls. it came very quickly through doordash and was packed well, in a cute little honshu branded paper bag! their lunch special is available monday to friday from 11:30am to 2:30pm.the maki deluxe set $22) comes with a choice of soup or salad, to which i got the salad which was good, pretty average. i was most excited for the sushi tbh since everybody seemed to be raving about the fish to rice ratio, but i thought it was also just average. i got 1) salmon avocado...
Ordered the omakase here for valentines day two years ago, and was seated in the foodcourt next door. Due to being in an entirely separate building and it being a clearly busy night, the service was a bit on the slower side. I wish they could have put in a greater effort to dress up the foodcourt that we were seated at next door they maintained the cold sterile tables, harsh food court lighting, and had 2010 hits on loop. Definitely all in good fun though, and is still a funny memory i look back on. Despite that, the food and sushi were great quality and very fresh. The assortment was extensive, and I surprisingly found myself feeling rather full after they brought out the last course :
I genuinely love every single thing about this place. Emma was our server and I hope when we come back, we get her again. She was efficient, had great communication, and super, super sweet. She was also very accommodating. Honestly the food here was affordable: we got 4 drinks (we came during happy hour), spicy mayo, 3 rolls, and two bowls of soba for $130(tax included). I definitely intend on coming back. Thank you Honshu and our amazing waitress Emma. We desperately needed a good night and she ensured that for the both of us :)Side note: this was very literally the BEST shrimp tempura I have ever had ANYWHERE
Find a place for dinner in Jersey City on Saturday night at 7 p.m. in an exercise in exasperation. We wanted to cross the tunnel and drive to NYC, but this place was recommended. It was about 1/3 full, but you could say that they had a lot of pick-up / take-out when the Sushi Bar people moved a lot too cumbersome for the dune in volume. Grandmakase for $85/person was quite reasonable, everything was fresh and tasteful, with one side of hamachi kama, some sachet and beer overall about $350 from the door for 3 people. This is our new spot for good quality, last minute sushi/sashimi.
Just ordered lunch via Uber Eats. Okinawa is closed today and I really wanted a spicy scallop roll so I chose Honshu because I've had their sushi before and it was good, and not every place has a spicy scallop roll.My salmon avocado and tuna rolls were good. The spicy scallop roll was literally all mantle skirts and gills and no actual scallop meat. I've literally never seen this before. Very gross, chewy texture that did not taste like scallop. Super disappointed.
Ordered 6 rolls and got only two small soy sauces that were halfway filled. For over $90 of sushi you would of thought better. Also a super small amount of fake wasabi and I'm not sure how it was the blandest horseradish I've ever had no heat. The {K] roll is not a roll. It's legit a lump of rice with me toppings sprinkled on it. Was looking forward to this order but for the price everything was mediocre or bad.
sashimi is good, but very stingy with the slices. Toro was tasty but don't think you're getting a slice as in the picture. very thin for the price.
Honshu had really nice sushi for comparable prices to other sushi places. Fish was fresh and the rolls were fun. I'd order takeout again.
Ordered takeout for the second time. Bug in food. So grossed out, will not be ordering from here again.
