Starting with the good stuff: This restaurant is super cute, lots of parking, friendly staff, honors your reservation time even while busy, service was timely and food came out coursed and last but certainly not the least, MOST of the food was very delicious. A few disappointments: we ordered half a dozen of oysters and they were all the same kind. I forget which area it came from. This restaurant offered simply the best overall meal and dining experience we have had in the Myrtle Beach area in the years we have been coming here to vacation. The steak my wife ordered- so well grilled and tender with great flavor; my daughters split the pallela dish and raved about the flavors, and I ordered the red snapper and have never had a better piece of fish in the presentation and flavor. Our server was great very knowledgeable about the restaurant and food. The she crab soup was delicious. It was more savory than sweet, but it was a nice take on she crab soup. The paella for 2 was tasty, but not worth $40. The variety of meats was interesting except that I wasn't able to distinguish between the chicken and fresh fish ! . I did have to ask the server twice about lowering the volume of the music. For some reason, only the bass was noticeable. Once the music was down, I was able to enjoy the experience. Overall, it would be nice to visit again and I would order something else.

We came to Hook Barrel after a wedding on the beach. We had a reservation and 2 of our party were late getting there. However it took 15 min for someone to greet us and get us some drinks. Otherwise the food and the environment was great. I'm not a foodie but I do enjoy tasting unique appetizers and dishes. The fig and brie appetizer is one of my favorites and the swordfish was awesome. a couple in the party ordered the surf and turf and really enjoyed that as well. Overall I would recommend Hook Barrel to my friends and family looking for an upscale place with delicious food.
We love this place! We’ve been for brunch several times but this was our first time for dinner. I’m 28 weeks pregnant and we were celebrating our wedding anniversary-right when our food came out I started feeling unwell and we had to leave quickly. The server boxed up our food as quickly as possible and sent us with dessert to go because it was a special occasion, it was so sweet! Once I was feeling better I enjoyed all the food and dessert! Can’t wait to go back and hopefully sit and enjoy the entire meal!
The food was good but not at all worth the price. Service was excellent. When you eat at an upscale restaurant you expect great service such as waiter/waitress attention to your needs, clearing the table for the next course and serving your entree in a timely manner. Hook and Barrel lived up to my expectations of a good meal experience but the cost of the meal did not reflect the overall experience.
Dexter was an excellent server who enhanced our dining experience with his helpful recommendations and exceptional service. A "must-visit" restaurant!
