This is the restaurant of a hotel in which many of the locals seem to eat. It is located behind the town's Catholic church about two blocks from the ocean. They have a second restaurant under the same name, facing the ocean, which I read in their website that it is run by their two sons. We visited this town because my 3x great grandfather was born baptized here in the early 1800s as well as other ancestors generations before him. While on a visit to the Costa Brava area in northeastern Catalonia, Spain, I had the opportunity to return for lunch at Hostal El Roser (also known as Roser 1, since a Roser 2 has opened at another nearby location , a restaurant in the seaside village of L'Escala known especially for its seafood. This is a busy restaurant and booking is recommended. The menu del dia was interesting, and the food was good. White bean starter was very tasty, my friend enjoyed the rabbit main course, while I had a lovely monkfish. An ice cream episode to follow was delicious. Wines were very good. My wife had sole, it was good, she liked it a lot. I had beef, it was ok, not perfect. Mushroom sauce was not the best one , should have been more creamy. The Spanish way to fry potatoes in oil is not the best way. Starters were good.
We enjoyed the menu of the day fresh tasty Catalan dishes of seafood and beef service was fantastic and meal very good value our favourite meal in L’Escala
