I have been here many times and our meal is usually ok to good and a couple of times great. Tonight I had the salt and pepper calamari and my husband had the lamb gyros. My calamari was over cooked as were the chips, my husbands dinner was fatty, there was no Greek seasoning on the meat which a gyros is so well known for and there were no olives in his salad. The last time we had the gyros we told the waitress and so we did again tonight that the cut the chef is using is the shoulder instead of the leg. If the chef wants to use the shoulder cut then it needs to be rendered for longer to remove the fat and sumac, salt, lemon on it will give it amazing flavour. As I've said, we have said this...
My wife and I are locals, we decided to go up to 520 (we haven't eaten there for a while). The wait staff are very attentive and pleasant. The menu appears not to have changed for years, but we decided to give it a go anyway.The meals are LARGE but not quality. I ordered a medium rare scotch with sides of potato and steamed vegies, it came out on a huge plate with salad and chips and my sides, I should have told them I did not want the obligatory chips and salad. Me and my fiancé went here to meet our close friends for dinner as we haven't been here before it's good to try new places. I have to say the service was good and friendly staff and they kept coming up to take orders. As we haven't seen each other for a bit. I ordered the open souvlaki and so did my fiancé and our friends ordered the steak I have to say I was bit surprised the food was fantastic on the night and the size of our meal are quite generous.We really had a good night out and it good to take the kids out two. This has now become our "birthday meal restaurant". Having a family of fussy eaters, our family of 3 adults and one teen (3 strapping males) ask to go to Hotel 520 each celebration. The menu is varied but 3/4 of us always end up ordering the open Gyros wrap which is to die for. Portions are very large and most of the time we leave having not being able to complete a full meal. Went to our local pub Hotel 520 tonight to celebrate our son's 18 birthday. This is a modern pub with a nice bistro, pokies, TAB, and a function room. The meals are a bit pricey but worth it with huge serves. Tonight we had lamb gyros, salt n pepper calamari, penne carbanara and chicken parma. Everyone was struggling to finish due to the size of the meal. There is also plenty of parking outside. Friendly helpful staff. Well worth the visit.
This Hotel was recommended for a evening meal to enable old school friends to catch up after many years. Food was good, reasonable value, generous in quantity and served fairly quickly. However, there was too much noise with meat raffles and other promotional prizes awarded to guests, that made it hard to talk. Not the best choice to sit and chat over a meal.
Have been here many times for dinner with friends and family. A good place for a quick meal. Have tasted many of their meals and they have always been lovely, hot, fresh and good portions. Menu changes with seasons and desserts are always delicious!
