Housatonic River Brewing, or as it is better know, HRB , provides something that the New Milford area did not have for a very long time a fun, exciting place to meet and sample great beers. The brewer Steve has been making delicious beer for several years now, and as time goes on, the beers just seem to get better and better. In addition, Dave the owner has transformed the beer garden in the premier live music spot in town. I've visited this brewery a few times, and unfortunately, I don't have much good to say about it. The building itself is nice, but that's about where the positives end. The staff and management seem to only cater to regulars, and the beers are generally subpar. My last visit was particularly disappointing; I ordered a beer but found it undrinkable after just a few sips. When I politely requested to swap it for a different one—something I've never had a problem with at any of the other 150+ breweries I've visited—the bartender responded by throwing my glass and giving me a rude attitude. I was really looking forward to trying out this restaurant since I'm new in town and don't know anyone yet. I stopped by for a beer on a Friday night, but the greeting I received wasn't very warm—maybe the staff was just having a rough night. I decided to order a beer anyway, but then I realized there was no service. When I asked about Wi-Fi, I found out they don't offer it. After a single sip, I left because drinking alone without internet access isn't my idea of a good time. Additionally, there were about 20 signs prohibiting dogs, which makes me doubt I’ll return. Overall, I left feeling disappointed.

If I could give zero stars, I definitely would. My group of six adults and an infant walked in, only to be refused service because we had an 8-month-old baby with us, who was peacefully asleep. This is utterly ridiculous, especially for a brewery. I would not recommend this place at all. I've never encountered such a situation before! It was only 2 PM. We came from NewSyulm and clearly should have stayed there.
This brewery has a lovely rustic charm and plenty of outdoor seating. They offer a great selection of beers, which are quite enjoyable. At times, it can get really busy, especially on nice weather days, while at other times, the service can be a bit slow. Overall, it’s a great place to relax and enjoy a drink.
Great little spot on the river. It’s really nice inside with a big fireplace and stage for live music. They have a really nice outdoor space as well with nice size tables and a covered awning.The beer is really good with the Double IPA leading the charge. they rotate food trucks which is a really nice touch.
Families should take note: the brewery has a strict no one under 21 policy, which includes infants. The waitress and bartender on 10/29/22 was not particularly friendly or helpful in explaining their beer selection. The only enjoyable aspect of the visit was the taco truck. Great beers. Nice variety from light and crisp to dark and malty. Customer service was outstanding. Wish they allowed dogs but at least they ban kids.
