We recently moved to town from New York, and to celebrate my birthday weekend, my partner and I decided to treat ourselves to some hibachi. After finding fantastic reviews for Ichiban Hibachi Steakhouse, along with rave recommendations from my coworkers, we were eager to give it a try. Since it was just the two of us, we arrived without a reservation. The young lady at the front was incredibly kind and informed us that there would be about a 20-minute wait, which we expected given the busy atmosphere. Most arriving guests were in larger parties of six to eight.
After waiting about 25 minutes, we were a bit disappointed when another party of seven was seated at our table shortly after us. Ho...
OMG, I have had my share of bad food in the Poconos, primarily because, for the most part, there is nothing but fast food places, but boy, was the place terrible. I have never been a fan of the hibachi nonsense show, so I just selected to sit at aregular table. The menu is terrible with a capital T, which complements what I was served at 100%. I was served Shrimpdrowning in teriyaki sauce, a side of over-cooked vegetables, and equally overcooked Spaghetti noodles. Yes, spaghetti noodlesmimicking egg noodles. Oh, but before that, I got a bowl of clear soup, ... Which was clear alright, as there was nothingbut water, bouillon cube, and 1 (one) piece of sliced dry mushroom, followed by a salad...
I have eaten here 3 or 4 times since moving to this area and the food has always been great. My wife and I ordered two seaweed salads with our meals, but when we got home we were shocked to find that only the top portion of our cups had seaweed while thebottom half was regular lettuce salad. Idk why they thought this was expectable. I would have much rather they had been honestand said they were running low and just sell us one cup full of seaweed salad that we could have shared. Instead they charged usfor two while serving us about 1/3 worth. Definitely felt played. The rest of the meal was good, but now we?re hesitant to orderfrom there again.
The food is delicious, and the drinks are strong and well-crafted. The portion sizes are satisfying. However, it doesn't earn a five-star rating due to the underwhelming hibachi show and the steak quality, which could be improved. The fried rice is excellent, but the soup that accompanies the hibachi is somewhat bitter, possibly from too much vinegar. Overall, the service is good.
