I very rarely write reviews of places I don't like, preferring to talk up the places I do like. However, with Ichibantei I can't help myself.The only reason it gets 2 stars is that the food is actually decent, but the drinks menu is a hot mess. Many drink options listed as *sold out* on the QR Code menu (why haven't those died yet? .The reggae music is an unexpected twist on an izakaya so I can appreciate that.However, where Ichiabantei falls down is on its service and ambiance. I went to this restaurant a few weeks ago with a friend, to have what I thought would be a good meal. Instead the seats we chose happened to sit below the grease duct of the restaurant, and an hour after sitting down, I turned around and my friend was shocked by the mess on the back of my shirt. The grease had been dripping on my back the entire night!!I have emailed the restaurant multiple times to request help in replacing the $150 shirt that was completely ruined by their restaurant. They recently moved to a beautiful new location. The place is huge and has a great atmosphere. Food is delicious and the portions are huge. The entrees come with miso soup, salad, and rice. And the drinks are also really tasty. Overall great food at a great price and would definitely visit again.Food: 5/5
I don't know if it was just that day, but it was difficult to get seating as well as to place orders. And the food was mid, I think it was supposed to be on the crispier side but it was served kinda cold where the chicken katsu was soggy. Salad and rice were fine.
The Teriyaki Chicken was tasty but the portion size does not match the cost at all! With tax this was almost $20 and the portion size was worth $7.
Karaage appetizer was entirely fatty dark meat. Side of sauce was $3.30 for 2 oz. Udon was just okay. Not worth the price.
Tonkatsu was amazing... especially late at night I was very surprised. Would definitely order again.
