This restaurant is always reliable for consistency. They have a limited menu, allowing them to excel with every dish. I enjoy steaks here, because every one is of top quality and cooked just the way I want it. My friends also had praise for the chef's ability to prepare meat. The place is comfortable and great for a leisurely meal, served by friendly, competent staff. Ask for a Bee Sting prior to your courses. It's a very tasty morsel to get you started. A whole bunch of us took advantage of their $28 steak + shiraz Tuesday night special to celebrate my birthday. It was great, the steaks lived up to the recommendations I'd heard. Crisp friendly service, great atmosphere, not too noisy so yes, we could actually enjoy the conversation for a change. The real unsung surprise were the desserts... oh my... they were great. They had just that day added some new desserts onto the menu and got the timing wrong with mine, no problem, "sorry for the wait, yours is for free". We had a great dinner for my 60th birthday with 8 friends. The service was outstanding and our wine waiter kept our glasses topped up and was extremely attentive. Everyone enjoyed all their meals. Most of us had 3 courses. Not a disappointment amongst us. Normally with 8 or more you are asked to order from the set menu however as we had some guests that would not have liked the options the chef asked if we could come half an hour earlier to fit in with the large volume of trade on the night. We obliged and all was sorted! The staff went out of their way to accommodate us. Thank you for a wonderful night of excellent food and wines.
Met a colleague for lunch recently and the anointed place for the meeting was this lovely establishment.We almost, well we were the first in and picked a small table close to the middle to enable a good view of all that entered.The staff were attentive and there on the spot with menus and drinks.I had been here before a few years ago and it remains a great spot for lunch or dinner. The meals were superb, our drinks were topped up in a timely fashion and we wanted for nothing. It was a freezing Melbourne night and Ilona Staller was warm and welcoming. My dinner companion is a local and she was welcomed like an old friend. The service is very good with the waiter suggesting wines and explaining the dishes. I fancied the slow braised beef cheek but with Brussels sprouts!? Eek. Memories of grey stodge from childhood and my mothers 'cooking'. I just can't go there. They were more than happy to provide beans as an alternate green veg, and also Kipfer potatoes - just because I can't resist them. The food was excellent. The serves are large so order with moderation.
An Italian restaurant with a limited menu of freshly cooked food and a wide wine list. Not a very large choice of beers. Very friendly service by knowledgeable and helpful waiters. Both the starter and the main were excellent. Did not manage a dessert as we were happy with the starter and main.
On a cold blustery winter evening we stepped into Ilona Staller and were not disappointed. We took the easy path and had the chefs selection menu with matched wines. Each course was packed full of flavor and the sommelier on hand to tell us why he chose each wine. A great night out.
I went with a girlfriend on a busy Thursday evening. Service was perfect for the location, the right balance of friendly with efficiency. The food was delicious. Just a lovely Sunday lunch today. 14 of us . Food delicious. Wine matched perfectly. The icing on the cake was the delightful, polite and attentive service in a laid back and tastefully decorated environment.
