My second visit here & I will go back. It falls just a hair short of a very good rating for me. The bias is more Chinese than Indian, even with the overtly Indian dishes. I'm guessing that the quicker wok cooking process doesn't allow for the flavour to develop as it might with traditional Indian techniques. It feels like the spices are still a little more "powdery", rather than being fully absorbed into the food or the sauce. However, it's still good food. Imagine my surprise to find this awesome hole in the wall at 5212 Kingsway in Burnaby! I am a frequent diner of Hakka, from Toronto, Scarborough, Mississauga etc. To get a true taste, I am kicking myself that I did not have the Chili Chicken with gravy (a very good indicator of their abilities)...but was wooed in to Chili Garlic Chicken Dumplings... and felt the lure of noodles - Chicken Hakka Chow Mein. Spice level three, which prompted a raised eyebrow from my young waitress. I said for real. Spicy please. And it was. Was expecting good things with the other reviews, it was bland, made us feel unwell, we couldn't believe how gooey and tasteless it was. The chilli chicken wasn't too chilli, the ginger beef wasn't in any way crisp, the Szechuan chicken was bland. All dishes were Rice was ok at best. All four of us were shocked how poor it was considering all the positive reviews. I've had Hakka all over the world, this place doesn't taste good at all. We won't return.
I looked outside the hotel where I could have dinner, and I tried a kitchen in this restaurant. Restaurance is not a paphos, but the great service is, I'm told, this is gonna be enough, and that's the dish we're gonna make you a mid-point. There's a little space, and they're often booked, but there's always a couple of tables tonight. The list is very large. If you don't finish, you'll have to give a box.
Being from Kamloops the Chinese food is tepid at best so it is always a stop for in the lower mainland. Indian wok did not disappoint. We chose threee dishes but our server said that they did not really go together so she recommended three dishes and two for my gluten intolerant daughter. Absolutely delicious! Food was hot and very fresh and tasty. A must stop in Burnaby!
We went there for dinner on a weekday and greeted by an amazing lady that runs the place. She was friendly, nice and figured out what we were looking for. We ordered chicken momos, vegetarian noodles and chicken manchurian. Oh my god! the food was the best we've ever had. No complaints. Easily the best in Vancouver. Can't wait to go back.
Small, clean family restaurant with Indian tweaked Chinese dishes - adding a bit of heat when it fits with the dish. A dish that is hot is marked with chillis. Friendly staff. Parking in rear. The Hakka chow mein was excellent, ditto the fish and the chicken dishes. Spicy beans were perfect. Affordable prices. Worth repeat visits.
this restaurant, located on the corner of Royal Oak and Kingsway, ifs too good to be true, though small, offers outstanding tasting food at very affordable ratesSophia, the owner, is the best, such a warm person, she became my friend, and takes good care, every time I eat there, I will never get tired of going to this place!!!!
The hakka chicken noodles were very good. A few more veggies would make it even better. I topped it with Szechuan beef, which was excellent. I also had the cream corn chicken soup which was ok. There are many of great items, I always have something different.
