A birthday is the perfect opportunity to try a restaurant that has long been on my list of must-go places. Located on the top floor of the MotorCity Casino Hotel, the restaurant is breath-taking, both in the view it offers and the overall aesthetics. Had dinner at Iridescence for my birthday and I couldn't have picked a more special place. Located on one of the top floors of the Motor City Casino Hotel and is easy to get to from the hotel lobby without ever entering the nearby casino portion of the facility. The host stand is next to a beautifully situated bar that could be a nice spot just to grab a drink or perhaps wait to be seated. Everything was perfect. To explain in a nutshell- the croutons looked so large I assumed they would be way too crunchy to eat as everyone in the restaurant would hear a crunch that loud. I was wrong they also weren't mushy and soggy feeling like croutons that have soaked in italian dressing too long. They were perfect. The most subtle of crunches on the outside and the inside is slightly moist, but nowhere near soggy. That describes the whole meal. The place isn't cheap by any means. X and I celebrated our anniversary with dinner at Iridescence. I had made the reservation a few weeks in advance via OpenTable and we were seated right after checking in with the host. The restaurant is located inside Motor City Casino on the 16th floor. The atmosphere and ambiance is carefully orchestrated, exuding luxury and class. If you are lucky enough to get a window seat you will enjoy one of the nicest views that Metro Detroit has to offer. The waiting staff is phenomenal, they frequently check on the table topping off water, and their recommendations are catered to the customers restrictions and preferences. On my most recent visit we had: Crab cakes- probably the best crab cakes I've had from a restaurant Oysters Rockefeller Greek salad For main meals we had: Filet and lobster tail Rack of lamb King crab legs- they were as long as my arm! Made the decision to try for our anniversary and it was nice. I ordered the Bell Evans Organic Chicken Breast meal which comes with collared greens smoked turkey confit and pureed squashed. The chicken was very tender and the plated sides decent. I added a side of whipped mashed potatoes which were so good. For dessert, I ordered the Baba Rum yeast cakes with raspberries and whipped cream. I will say this, the rum cakes were soaked to the max and overpowering for my taste. Overall, we may revisit but at least it was a nice experience if we don't get around to it.
The atmosphere was very very relaxing. Parking was a breeze. Even though we had reservation and arrived early, this was not a problem. We where promptly seat and severed. We each tried a few things off each page of the menu. The lobster mac was very well prepared and one of favorite dishes of the evening. My steak was cooked expertly. However the flavor was not as profound as I expected it to be. We both felt the desert menu was weak at best. On the topic of will we return, we both voted on yes. Based on how simple parking was.
The views were amazing, the ambiance was great, the bread they give you to start tasted so dang good! Why the 1 star, you ask? Because I found a HAIR in my food. The server tried to blame my sister and I for it. The hair was blonde.....we have very dark hair. No blonde in sight. But our server was blonde....yup. Anyways, she didn't seem to care that we had hair in our food. She remade the order, which was nice. Their bathrooms are nice. That's all.
