Nice experience. Although we have eaten at most restaurants around the valley we have always kind of overlooked the Big Stop in New Minas. A family member ate there and got the fish and chips and was extremely impressed with the huge portion and freshness of the fish so decided to grab supper there. There is lots of great items on the menu and many great 'home cooked country meal ' options which I love. I got the roast turkey dinner and my other half got the breakfast skillet. We both very much enjoyed our meals. The service was great, lots of staff to look after everyone which was good to see, they were all very friendly and our waitress was very knowledgeable when notifying her of a peanut...
The Big Stop has been a beloved part of my life since childhood, where I've enjoyed coffee, all-day breakfasts, and those amazing fries. Recently, they've undergone renovations and a complete rebuild, which made me a bit anxious that they might have altered their tried-and-true formula. However, there's no need to worry—the Big Stop is just as delicious as ever, with the same outstanding service. The burgers were fantastic, made from hand-formed ground beef patties—truly gourmet! And those crinkle fries were cooked to perfection. I will definitely be returning for more!
The only thing that has changed at this diner since my childhood is the prices. It's a classic spot offering generous portions of comforting food. It's the ideal place to refuel after a long day of hiking or exploring. And here’s a pro tip: add cheese curds to the hot turkey sandwich to create a delicious turkey sandwich poutine!
The food is good, but my only issue is that the prices have increased significantly. Most dishes now average around $16 to $17, so be prepared to spend. For a party of four, if you calculate for 16 per person plus a 15% tax, you're looking at about $80 with a small tip included.
